Product Manager, Application Core

Every day, scientists around the world use Benchling’s applications, platform, & analytics in their efforts to solve humanity’s most pressing problems. For these scientists, Benchling is the central technology they use to conduct their research. Our customers include pharmaceutical giants, leading biotechs, and the world’s most renowned research institutes.
Benchling is a suite of applications, but its real selling point is the unified platform underneath it. Underpinning every kind of object in Benchling is a common set of features that our customers depend on, including how they’re exported, archived, and surfaced to users in the first place. Owning the “Application Core” means being a bit of a jack-of-all-trades; there are a number of odd projects here and there you’ll be involved in. At first you'll be working on a scrum team alongside another PM to develop these features. Sometime next year the eng team will grow, and the team will likely split into one that you'll work with on your own.
We're looking for people who know Benchling inside and out, and are passionate about taking ownership of features and making an impact across our customer base. In this role, you'll start a career in product management, partnering with our engineering and design teams to own feature design, development, and launch end-to-end.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
- Own the design and implementation of frameworks that affect every object in Benchling
- Work with Engineering to plan, prioritize, and execute on launching new features rapidly
- Work closely with our customers to understand how they’re using our product, their needs, and pain points
- Partner with our Customer Experience org to enable complex rollouts at our customers
- Develop pitches with Sales and Marketing that resonate in a market that's rapidly evolving
WHO YOU ARE
- A Benchling expert. Deep knowledge of Benchling’s existing capabilities and shortcomings, with 1.5+ years of experience working with it
- Desire to pursue a career in product management, learning the necessary skills along the way
- Possess an intense desire to understand, question, and improve the experiences for users of software products
- A strong problem solver that can gather, prioritize, and drive execution on customer and business requirements, turning them into successful product strategies
- Are comfortable in a customer-facing role, including interfacing directly with highly technical stakeholders within customer organizations
- Are data-influenced, and can identify new opportunities and provide sound reasoning for strategy decisions from that data
- Are excellent at listening to others and articulating ideas in written and oral form
- Possess influential leadership and interpersonal skills that enable you to build strong relationships with customers, your reports, company peers, and executives
- Have a bachelor’s degree in engineering, computer science, biology, or chemistry
