The role of Director, Germplasm Product Management will be responsible for ensuring Indigo products perform at their best on elite germplasm across crops. This role will engage closely with R&D, Agronomy and Crop Product Managers to ensure we are leveraging leading genetics in our product development pipeline and pairing microbial products with optimal germplasm. This role will collaborate externally with seed partners, industry groups and academic institutions to ensure Indigo is integrating the latest science into our offering. The Director for Germplasm Product Management will also contribute to our scientific communications effort as we work to share our work with external collaborators. This role will report to the Head of Crop Product Management.

Responsibilities:

  • Partner with other Crop Product Managers to build out the germplasm component of the 5-year product pipeline
  • Build out glidepath for likely trait product launches over the coming 5-year period and work with crop product managers to identify implications for Indigo products
  • Work with crop product manager and buyer account managers to prioritize grain quality attributes by crop and develop tiered scoring of germplasms based on overall quality potential
  • Form relationships with target seed companies
  • Builds Indigo’s relationships with public and private breeding programs
  • Ensure up-to-date knowledge of pedigree development is imported into Indigo knowledge base; serve as subject matter expert for this topic for the rest of the company
  • Establish cross-functional relationships with Agronomy, R&D, and Commercial; serve as a partner to Supply Chain in signing up seed partners for Commercial agreements
  • Secure a robust supply and process to secure elite genetics
  • Develop a plan to identify, access, and test germplasm that fits best within Indigo’s beneficial ag system
  • Work with Indigo Research Partners and R&D to construct a germplasm by microbial candidate prioritization plan
  • Develop a perspective on Indigo’s 2018 and 2019 germplasm placement and deliver a measure of potential vs. realized yield
  • Build a strategy for maximizing product performance in a grower choice model with seed company relationships
  • Refine Indigo’s knowledge of total yield potential and primary stressed and conditions that limit realized yield

  • Understands plant breeding and selection processes across Indigo’s 5 core crops
  • Knowledgeable of GM trait technologies, development processes and production system implications

  • Able to run a process with seed companies from pitch to signed agreement for germplasm access (including creating content to explain our entire business in order to negotiate terms)
  • Has a strong network within organic and non-GM seed

Qualifications:

  • 10+ years experience in plant-breeding or related field
  • Graduate degree in plant-breeding or related a plus
  • Deep understanding of key crop breeding programs in the US
  • Experience in product development at a seed company preferred
  • Understanding of seed industry licensing (genetics & traits)
  • Formal training in Genetics or Agronomy
  • Connections with university and academic seed banks and discipline-specific research teams across crops
  • Expertise in corn and soybeans required; preferably with other crops as well
  • Able to be based in Boston, MA or Memphis, TN

Location

On the edge of Charlestown, we are within walking distance to restaurants and bars. The Sullivan Square T and bus stop is also right next door! We are currently working remote/hybrid with the exception of our fantastic Biotrinsic team who work from the office and lab space here.
