Job Summary

Our company is seeking a Principal Full Stack Solution Architect with deep expertise in Microsoft Azure and the .NET ecosystem. In this role, you will be the technical leader responsible for architecting end-to-end cloud solutions across our Microsoft stack. You will design and guide the development of enterprise-grade applications leveraging Azure's Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) and Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) offerings to deliver scalable, secure, and high-performing Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) solutions.

A key focus of this role is designing multi-tenant architectures that enable both our internal family of companies and external clients to access tailored solutions from a centralized platform. The Principal Solution Architect will ensure these Azure-based solutions are built with tenant isolation, security, and performance in mind, following best practices for multi-tenant SaaS design (serving multiple customer tenants). This position requires close collaboration with multiple development teams and stakeholders; you will provide architectural guidance, set technical standards, and make critical technical decisions to align projects with our overall cloud strategy. While this is a leadership role, it is also hands-on – especially in initial stages. You will prototype core components, set coding standards, perform code reviews, and mentor engineers, all while steering the organization’s technical direction and ensuring solutions meet business needs.

This person will communicate and operate in line with organizational goals and values, as well as departmental objectives.

Essential Functions

  • Architect and design end-to-end cloud solutions on Microsoft Azure, ensuring alignment with enterprise architecture standards and best practices.
  • Develop multi-tenant SaaS architectures that serve multiple client organizations (internal affiliates and external customers) from a centralized platform, with secure tenant isolation and efficient resource utilization.
  • Lead modernization efforts by migrating or re-architecting legacy Microsoft applications (e.g. IIS-hosted .NET apps with SQL Server) into Azure cloud solutions, leveraging PaaS services when possible.
  • Leverage Azure services (PaaS and IaaS) by selecting appropriate technologies for each solution (e.g. Azure App Services, Azure Functions, Azure SQL Database vs. virtual machines with IIS/SQL) to balance agility and control.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (product owners, developers, DevOps, security) to gather requirements and ensure solutions adhere to design principles, coding standards, and DevOps best practices[6].
  • Produce thorough documentation, including high-level and low-level architecture designs, technical roadmaps, and decision logs to guide development and deployment.
  • Implement performance, scalability, and cost optimizations – design for high availability, efficient use of resources, and cost-effective Azure deployments (right-sizing, auto-scaling, etc.).
  • Ensure robust security and compliance by applying best practices (Zero Trust, least privilege) and tenant isolation measures in architecture, preventing any cross-tenant access or data leakage.
  • Stay current with emerging technologies and evaluate new Azure services or frameworks (Azure AI services, container platforms, etc.), providing recommendations to improve our platforms and drive innovation.
  • Mentor and guide engineering teams during development – lead design reviews and code reviews, troubleshoot complex issues, and ensure the delivered systems align with the intended architecture and quality standards.
  • Completion of Assigned Tasks and Deliverables on Time and on Budget
    • Performs Other Related Duties as Assigned

Position Requirements (Beginner Level for all the Following Unless Otherwise Noted)

  • Microsoft Tech Stack: Strong proficiency with the Microsoft development stack – expert in C# and .NET (including ASP.NET Core) and relational databases (SQL Server). Familiarity with hosting and deploying applications on IIS as well as in Azure cloud environments is expected.
  • Azure Cloud Architecture: Deep knowledge of Azure services and architecture patterns. Able to design cloud-native applications using Azure PaaS components (App Services, Azure Functions, Azure SQL Database, etc.) and integrate them with necessary IaaS resources.
  • Full-Stack Development: Experience in full-stack web development, including designing modern front-end applications (using frameworks like Angular or React) alongside back-end APIs and services.
  • Microservices & APIs: Hands-on experience designing microservices architectures, building RESTful APIs, and implementing event-driven systems (using messaging or event hubs).
  • DevOps & CI/CD: Proficiency with DevOps practices and tools – able to set up CI/CD pipelines (Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions, etc.), automate infrastructure deployments (Infrastructure-as-Code), and utilize containerization with Docker and Kubernetes (AKS).
  • Security & Identity: Solid understanding of cloud security and identity management, including authentication/authorization via Entra and OAuth2/OIDC (JWT tokens), and applying security best practices in application design.
  • Infrastructure & Networking: Familiarity with Azure IaaS and networking (Azure Virtual Machines, VNETs, storage, load balancers, etc.) and the ability to architect hybrid solutions that combine Azure PaaS and IaaS when appropriate.
  • Technical Leadership: Excellent communication and leadership skills – capable of leading architecture discussions, documenting and presenting solutions to stakeholders, and working closely with multiple teams to drive execution.
  • SaaS/Multi-Tenancy: Experience designing multi-tenant software architectures or developing SaaS products that serve multiple customer organizations (including managing Azure AD tenants/B2B scenarios) is a strong plus.
  • Azure Foundry/Service Fabric: Familiarity with Azure Service Fabric, Azure Foundry, or similar cloud application frameworks for building and deploying code-first solutions.
  • Exposure to broader Microsoft ecosystem tools and frameworks (e.g. .NET Core high-performance libraries, enterprise integration patterns, etc.) and staying up-to-date with the latest Azure innovations.

Travel / Relocation Requirements

  • Up to 5%, this may include travel to any or all 50 US states
  • Travel is defined as physically leaving home on behalf of business activities including but not limited to client sites, meetings with other employees, meeting for business development purposes, running errands on behalf of the business, attending industry conferences, etc.

Education / Experience Requirements

  • 10+ years in software development and architecture, including 5+ years of hands-on experience with Azure cloud solutions.
  • Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect Expert (highly preferred).
    • Additional Microsoft Azure certifications such as Azure DevOps Engineer Expert or Azure Developer Associate are a plus.
