The Role
We are looking for a Senior Director of Global Network Operations to lead a world class globally distributed operations team of DevOps and SRE engineers and leaders directly responsible for the availability and reliability of Aura's edge cloud platform that runs one of the World's largest VPN networks used by 30 million monthly active users
Responsibilities

  • Define vision and strategy that moves Aura's operating culture to the next level, while challenging and inspiring the team to deliver on outcomes.
  • Advance operational discipline, iterating on reliability engineering and operations best practices in a fast-moving and collaborative environment.
  • Prioritize platform initiatives and act as an advocate and evangelist for reliability and automation as first order principle.
  • Develop and measure KPIs to not only to gauge the health of the edge platform you support, but to motivate your team towards hardened processes and practices.
  • Collaborate across the company to successfully deliver on key business and customer priorities.
  • Recruit, lead, mentor, and retain a team of high-performance engineers, ensuring their success and growth in a rapidly evolving industry.
  • Cultivate a culture of ownership, accountability, and perpetual curiosity that recognizes the important role that Fastly plays in the global flow of information.


Qualifications

  • A leader in every sense of the word, with extensive experience leading distributed teams.
  • Several years in a senior level management role, with significant reliability and operations experience in mission critical environments.
  • Successful track record of strategy execution that tangibly moves the reliability needle.
  • Exceptional technical and non-technical presentation and communication skills at the team, executive, and customer levels.
  • High level of organization in an often-changing environment, with proven ability to shift from strategic to tactical, digging in and prioritizing as necessary.
  • Strong hands-on experience leveraging operational best practices that reduce risk while increasing engineering velocity.
  • The ability to drill into and understand the technical details of issues or incidents, and drive reliability improvements as an outcome.
  • Intimate knowledge of how the internet works, particularly at the global level with how edge networks work in delivering services in conjunction with public cloud overlay services
  • Forward thinker. You not only bring ideas to the table that solves scale and service quality challenges, but you formulate plans and execute on them.
  • High emotional intelligence. Aura teams collaborate regularly, and are part of a people-first organization.
  • Education: BS or MS in CS or similar technical discipline, with at least 15 years' industry experience
