Job Qualifications:

Aurora Flight Sciences has an opening for a Systems, Integration, and Test (SEIT) Division Manager. The person in this position has the responsibility for ensuring the highest level of capability, consistency and quality in Aurora’s work in this portion of the engineering organization. This position has the responsibility to lead the division’s engineering teams (the Chief Engineers forum, the Systems Engineering Group, and the Test and Evaluation Group) to envision, develop, test, modify, and deliver practical solutions to technical problems within this area. The division manager is also responsible to mature the company’s technical capabilities and methods (processes, tools, organization, etc.) within the engineering teams that comprise the division.

 

A combination of technical delivery and team leadership, the primary product lines for activities will be manned and unmanned aerial vehicles, optionally piloted vehicles, and modification of existing aircraft (fixed, VTOL, and rotary wing).

 

The SEIT Division Manager is expected to fulfill the overall objectives of Aurora Engineering within its particular collection of disciplines:

  • Provide skilled, trained and equipped technical staff to execute Aurora’s programs in areas related to Systems Engineering, Project Engineering, Test and Evaluation Engineers, Certification, and Chief Engineer duties

  • Develop and apply consistent, effective technical methods used across the programs

  • Hire, reward and retain great people at Aurora’s multiple engineering centers.

  • Translate theory to practice: Build things that work

  • Understand and advance appropriate means to introduce advanced technology and approaches to system and subsystem design for Aurora’s aircraft and related products

  • Develop and grow the organizational capabilities needed to support programs in the execution of SEIT practices, including but not limited to the following: support early stage CONOPS development and technical road mapping, requirements definition and tracking, systems safety practices (FHAs, FTAs, FMEAs, FMECAs, PSSAs, and SSAs), test and evaluation plan generation and execution (for programs and for individual systems), and certification and testing of subsystems and full aircraft systems

  • Operate seamlessly and appropriately across a spectrum of programs types, from early-stage research to implementing capabilities on operational systems

 

Specific Responsibilities

  • Lead the definition and maturation of the company’s capabilities and methods within the charter of the division. Seek opportunities to strengthen Engineering’s other capabilities, both organizationally and technically.

  • The SEIT Division Manager plays a vital role in cultivating and growing a vibrant, capable and collaborative engineering team. Specific activities include identifying areas in which the team needs to grow in capability and/or in size, seeking out and recruiting exceptional potential employees, participating significantly in the recruiting process, and building and protecting esprit de corps among the team. Exemplifying Aurora’s value of “Lead by Example” is essential.

  • The Division Manager has the responsibility and authority to manage the assigned members of the team, primarily the Group Managers. This includes the conduct of annual reviews, defining and monitoring program assignments, managing employee training plans, monitoring team accomplishments, and participating in the demand-forecast and assignment-planning process. The Division Manager is responsible for meeting assigned utilization goals.

  • An effective review process is a foundation for delivering high-quality technical designs and data. The SEIT Division Manager is responsible for defining and shepherding effective review processes within the team. In addition, he or she is expected to participate as a reviewer in gated technical program reviews. Delegation is to be expected on occasion.

  • The Division Manager plans and manages the overhead budget required to enable the group to do its work. This typically consists of a labor component and a material component (frequently specialized computer hardware and software items).

  • The SEIT Division Manager is expected to directly support programs as needed (i.e. charge directly) for some fraction of his/her time (approximately 20%).

 

Minimum Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline is required; advanced degrees are highly desired.

  • Minimum of 15 years’ combined experience in aerospace engineering with a strong focus on Systems Engineering, Evaluation, and Test.

  • Demonstrated leadership and strong performance in at least one of the disciplines encompassed in the division is required. Demonstrated ability to effectively collaborate across other disciplines, particularly those in the division, is essential.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills are required

  • Familiar with industry standards for hardware and software certification, including but not limited to FAA Type Certification under FAR Parts 23, 25 27, or 29; DO-178; DO-254; SAE ARP 4754 and 4761; and other

  • Must be a US citizen or authorized permanent resident.

 

Shift Requirements:

Occasionally required to work non-business hours to support experiments and travel to customer sites
