Patient Safety at Iora Health

The Role

This is an amazing leadership opportunity for someone with significant patient safety experience who is looking to play a critical role in a high growth, innovative healthcare company. The primary purpose of this position is to shape the vision and advance patient safety at Iora Health, promoting a culture of safety and the elimination of avoidable harm.

This position will report directly to Iora’s Chief Medical Officer and will be based here in Boston, MA.

Key Responsibilities

  • Shape vision for patient safety at Iora, including serving as a champion of our culture of safety.
  • Develop effective plans to implement that vision, including managing ongoing initiatives across the organization
  • Build and operate appropriate safety infrastructure, which includes incident follow-up and analysis, reporting and prioritization
  • Foster a culture of safe practices to reduce error and improve patient outcomes by building strong relationships with practice, market and functional leaders across the company.
  • Assess compliance with national and local patient safety standards; collaborate in the design and implementation of solutions to address gaps. Serve as a resource to front line colleagues.
  • Know and monitor areas of organizational risk and compliance as it relates to patient safety.
  • Emphasize proactive harm prevention for patients by supporting the development and implementation of effective programs, policies, and activities.
  • Review reported incidents and work collaboratively with care teams to conduct root cause analysis into serious issues and near misses.
  • Coordinate analysis and prioritization of patient safety initiatives with colleagues responsible for quality initiatives, care model design and training as well as with leaders of practice & market operations
  • Lead Iora’s Safety Committee and collaborate with key legal and compliance colleagues to ensure appropriate risk management.
  • Contribute to care model design work (including role design) to ensure that patient safety priorities are being addressed
  • Manage the budget related to patient safety work (e.g. training programs, third party consultants and vendors).

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Has completed trainings and/or certifications specific to patient safety within last 2-3 years
  • 3-5 years experience leading patient safety initiatives in an ambulatory environment, primary care environment a plus.
  • Experience with investigating incident reports and conducting root cause analyses; familiarity with risk management
  • Proven ability to build effective organizational systems and processes
  • Appreciation for care model innovation and improvement
  • Ability to balance planning, building and working “hands on”; proven project management skills
  • Deep knowledge of best practices in patient safety; facility with national patient safety resources and networks
  • High level of comfort working with data; analytic skills that inform clear prioritization
  • Well-honed influencing skills: able to make a compelling case for prioritization and action
  • Excellent communication skills (written and oral); very strong interpersonal, relationship building skills
  • Strong orientation to detail
  • Ambitious, hungry to make an impact; positive, can-do attitude, solution oriented
