The Opportunity

As the Director of Derivatives/Collateral Operations, you will be responsible for the successful execution of daily collateral management and derivative payment processing related to the MassMutual's General Investment Account (GIA). Additionally, you will play a key role in the Derivative Ecosystem transformation and have significant interaction with the Program Management Office for Investments (PMOfI). You will assist in leading, formulating and defining business and/or systems scope, requirements, and objectives as it relates to designing Derivative and Collateral operations, including cash and securities via SWIFT processing. You will also apply finance, investment accounting knowledge and other technical skills to provide oversight related to the current and future state needs of MassMutual. As the Director of the Derivatives/Collateral Operations, you will lead a team of Analysts. 

The Team

The Director of Derivatives/Collateral Operations will report to the Head of Derivatives, Collateral, and Investment Pricing, part of MassMutual Investment Operations Team within the Investment Management Division. The team is responsible for the life cycle of Derivative Investments and Investment pricing of MassMutual's General Investment Account (GIA). The team is diligently working on a multi-year project related to the transformation of MassMutual's Derivatives and Collateral Platform. The effort entails the implementation of one stop shopping for Derivatives, including a front, middle and back office solution. As part of this solution the Derivative/Collateral team will be gathering business requirements, developing, and implementing new operational processes, including the new SIMM UMR regulatory requirements.

The Impact:

  • Manage daily collateral movements including derivative variation margin (cleared, regulatory and legacy), repo margining, FHLB etc.
  • Manage daily cash disbursements related to Derivative trades and coupon payments
  • Lead the implementation of new derivative and collateral regulations, including SIMM UMR
  • Develop the derivative and collateral operational functions within the Derivative Ecosystem, including implementation of SWIFT
  • Assists in managing divisional/cross-divisional complex projects
  • Responsible for managing aspects of complex transactions and new mandates as it relates to derivatives and collateral management
  • Facilitates remediation of derivative and collateral operational issues, including Counterparty/Broker discrepancies
  • Directs team members and collaborate with internal and external business partners to research and accommodate new products traded by the investment manager
  • Drives continuous improvement and efficiencies beyond own scope of responsibility
  • Manage employee development, training, and planning
  • Anticipates change, looks for trends and directs or redirects efforts
  • Directs staff in the development and implementation of departmental policies, procedures, and programs
  • Advances the interest of the company by serving on teams that are external to the organization when appropriate
  • Maintains MassMutual internal control standards, including timely implementation of internal and external audit points together with any issues raised by internal/external auditors as applicable

The Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Business and or Math
  • At least Eight years of general investment experience including treasury operations experience
  • Supervisory experience 

  • Understanding of the Investment Management process and the related data flows
  • Ability to work with investment data consumers to understand issues and recommend and execute solutions
  • Demonstrated leadership of business analysis and data management
  • Understanding of a wide range of asset classes and how investment information for such asset classes is used.
  • Strong collaboration skills and the ability to work in a team-based environment.
  • Excellent communication skills with ability to address and resolve conflicts diplomatically.
