Our Opportunity:

Chewy is currently seeking a Director of Category Management to join our growing and fast-paced Hard Goods Merchandising team in Boston, MA. We have a unique opportunity to change the way pet parents care for their pets and we are looking for an inspirational leader and builder who can manage cutting edge merchandising categories across pet technology, supplies and accessories. This Director will be responsible for developing an ecosystem of pet technology as well as developing proprietary brand products our customers and pets will love. In addition, this leader will create the right apps to support the IOT for pets.  If you are passionate about a truly entrepreneurial role which has high relevance and impact as well as regular interactions with Chewy’s top executives, product, tech, and supply chain teams, then this is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity! In this role you will own the business growth strategy, category P&L, and continuously assess products and services to stay ahead of the competition. What You’ll Do:

  • Lead some of Chewy’s most important businesses categories
  • Have full P&L ownership
  • Lead a team encompassing assortment, pricing, promotions, forecasting, budgeting, etc.
  • Continue to realize high double digit growth rates; both for sales and profit
  • Maximize existing business and in parallel launch new categories and products
  • Develop further the merchandising strategy as well as related programs and projects. Implement resulting action plans and ensure operational excellence and high delivery accuracy
  • Build and implement, based on research and data insights, strategies and plans to both recruit new customers to Chewy and to develop existing customers via lifecycle management concepts
  • Work cross-functionally with marketing, merchandising, sucpply chain management, finance, tech, etc. to ensure close collaboration as well as holistic planning and execution
  • Constantly audit, improve, invent, and WOW Chewy’s customers
  • Manage all vendor relationships critical to the vertical
  • Develop further, strongly engage, and hire a high-performance team

What You’ll Need:

  • 12+ years of holistic business experience in top ecommerce, retail, FMCG, or similar organizations
  • 10+ years of leadership experience
  • Having been the sole P&L owner of an important business and/or big product unit
  • Exceptional competencies in vendor management/merchandising, sales, marketing, and general management
  • Very good understanding of finance, pricing, supply chain management, and operations
  • Deep understanding of product & project management
  • Very experienced with owning and growing large-size and complex businesses at high growth rate
  • Demonstrated ability to launch and rapidly scale new business ventures
  • Strong comprehensive business acumen and the willingness to move fast
  • Excellent strategic and analytical skills
  • Proven operator, skilled in go-to-market, and with focus on executing in excellence
  • Superior sense of ownership paired with a high-quality bar and an unshakable growth mindset
  • Strong leadership skills and experience developing and managing a high-performance team
  • Superb communication skills combined with the ability to influence cross-functional partners
  • Must be open to travel if needed 
  • Bachelor’s Degree Preferred

  • MBA clearly preferred
  • Business and leadership experience in market-leading organizations; both in bigger organizations and a start-up businesses
