About Optimus Ride

Optimus Ride is based in the Boston Seaport District. Our team hails from a diverse set of backgrounds, and cumulatively has decades of experience building self-driving vehicles, electric vehicles, manufacturing robots, surgical robots, autonomous drones, and more. We aim for a highly collaborative, hands-on, and open environment where peers learn from each other while building technologies for real-world environments.

We are seeking a talented and ambitious deployment operations instructor to help train our growing team of safety drivers and software operators. You will learn all about our autonomous vehicle software and technology to train each class of drivers and operators to safely operate our fleet and provide a world-class autonomous vehicle service to our customers. You will also be expected to operate and test the vehicles as well in order to stay updated with the latest state of the system.

This is a part-time role with the expectation that the individual will work approximately 30 hours/week.

Responsibilities

  • Thoroughly understand how our self-driving technology works
  • Being able to adapt to ongoing innovation and technology improvements
  • Train each class of safety drivers and software operators to be able to operate our vehicles efficiently
  • Provide feedback to our engineering team to help improve our technology
  • Make operational improvement suggestions to deployment operations team to improve training program
  • Monitoring all systems in the vehicle during testing on public and private roads
  • Conducting driving tests with self-driving vehicles in pilot locations with mentorship from the engineering team
  • Safely operating vehicle and following testing plan provided by test engineers

Requirements

  • Willingness to always be learning and motivated to innovate
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills
  • Proven experience with computers and running/operating software
  • Prior teaching experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in any field
  • Must be at least 21 years old with an active and valid driver’s license for at least three years
  • Good safety record on driver’s license. You are ineligible if you have the following: a DUI or other drug-related violation in the last seven years, a major moving violation (e.g., reckless driving, driving with suspended license), more than three moving violations in the past year (e.g., accidents, traffic light violations), and any driving-related convictions in the last seven years (e.g., hit-and-run, felonies involving a vehicle)
  • Ability to pass a background check
  • Ability to travel to pilot locations
  • Ability to test vehicles for extended hours

Bonus

  • Prior experience operating self-driving vehicles
  • Prior experience with learning new software
