Communications Consultant - Media Relations - Remote North East

The Communications Consultant will be a motivated communications professional who will be responsible for supporting the media relations team and contributing to the development and execution of communications plans in collaboration with other communications partners to help promote, enhance and protect the company brand and reputation. This role, which reports to the Head of Media Relations, will be responsible for supporting the creation, integration and implementation of a broad range of media relations activities relative to the strategic direction and positioning of MassMutual and its leadership.

The Impact
- Partner with team members to provide media relations support to the company's Community Responsibility, HR and Employee Experience areas (which includes Diversity, Equity and Inclusion).
- Oversee corporate reputational awards and recognition opportunities for the company.
- Conduct media monitoring and metrics analysis for the media relations team, including compiling and issuing press coverage recaps, preparing monthly dashboards and annual coverage reports and monitoring, preparing and circulating recaps on individual projects and topics as needed.
- Provide organizational support to the department, exhibiting attention to detail and discipline in upkeeping resources and files to support the media relations team and increase efficiency.
- Exercise excellent judgment in prioritizing workload, focusing on those efforts that are most strategic and impactful for the company.
- Have a team mentality, effectively collaborating with fellow media relations team members as well as strategic communications colleagues and business partners across the company.
- Demonstrate agility and flexibility and a continuous learning mindset, with willingness and desire to work on new areas or special projects as needed.
The Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in communications, journalism or related field or equivalent experience.
- 2+ years communications / media relations experience.
- Strong writing, editing and media relations skills – from development of strategic messaging, to writing press releases, to pitching unique storylines, to media training executives.
- Ability to think and adapt quickly to a fast moving range of topics and issues while remaining and exhibiting calm under pressure.
- Continuous improvement mindset with a commitment to introducing new and innovative ideas and media relations approaches.
