The Claim Director is a member of the Disability Income claims leadership team and is responsible for the overall management and supervision of an Individual Disability Income (IDI) claims team. Our claim teams consist of claim supervisors and claim examiners from multiple product lines and specialties. Our Directors oversee the daily review, adjudication, and payment of claims across various product lines.
The Impact
As a Claim Director on our team, you will be responsible for:
Hiring, retention and development of IDI claims talent
Formally leading, guiding, mentoring, and coaching claim examiners in both technical and professional skills.
Cultivating an environment conducive to continuous improvement and root cause problem solving activities
Ensuring the team Focuses on customer experience to deliver the best-in-class service to our policyholders
Strong understanding of operational and performance metrics
Commitment to professional development: adaptable to change; open to both receiving and providing feedback in a constructive manner; makes changes in behavior based on feedback and/or experience
Collaborating with claims leadership, internal and external business partners to achieve business objectives
Ensuring the team operation is efficient, effective and in compliance with all federal and state requirements
Supporting and executing claim management initiatives
Creating a culture where the team is inspired, engaged and motivated
Removing obstacles and optimize team results
Demonstrating strong interpersonal and emotional intelligence skills to resolve escalated and complex claim matters with key business partners, customers, agents and vendors
Minimum Qualifications
7+ years of Insurance experience with a minimum of 5 years progressively responsible disability claims experience; or a minimum of 5 years of insurance operational management
HS Diploma and equivalent work experience
Demonstrated leadership abilities to include high performance team building, coaching, and performance management capabilities, and strategic planning and executing
Must build a diverse team that is inclusive and values different experience, backgrounds and knowledge
Excellent communication skills, including strong presentation skills.
Analytical, negotiating and interpretative skills required
Strong integrity and experience in dealing with people and their confidential information
Excellent organization and prioritization skills
Ability to make independent decisions including balancing risk to company with customer requests and needs.
A leader who is willing to roll up their sleeves and jump into production when necessary
Flexible to travel and work outside of standard office hours
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree
Proficiency in Disability products and Claims
Any exposure to LTC Claims
Industry designations encouraged
Location
Position can be staffed in our Springfield, Mass, or Phoenix, AZ offices, or can also be Fully Remote with occasional travel to our offices, as appropriate
Compensation
Salary range for this position is 90,000- 110,000 USD **Salary commensurate with skills and experience
