The Company

Basis Technology is a world-class text analytics company looking for a Technical Writer to join our platform team to work on software products used in identifying the sentiment of text, categorizing documents, parsing sentences, determining parts of speech and do this across 55 different human languages! Join us and help us create the next wave of software for NLP and text analytics.

The Role

Work as an integrated member of a multidisciplinary agile development team on Basis’s flagship products. Reporting to an engineering director, collaborate with multiple software component teams to identify, design, implement,and rollout our next generation documentation management system as well as revamp/refactor existing legacy content using latest agile documentation technologies.

Responsibilities

  • Work with Product Management and Engineering leadership to research and evaluate the latest documentation technologies
  • Plan and execute the implementation of the next generation documentation platform
  • Overhaul existing content and migrate them to the new platform
  • Establish and enforce documentation standards and best practices
  • Promote documentation-as-code and facilitate document production as part of our software CI/CD (continuous integration/continuous delivery)
  • Act as a customer advocate for correctness, completeness, clarity, and ease of use for all product literatures

Qualifications

  • Excellent written skills in English, proficiency in additional language(s) is a big plus
  • 2+ years of experience as a technical writer for software products, ideally in SDK/API documentation where the target audience is software developers
  • Experience with public facing SaaS documentation and hosting is ideal
  • In-depth knowledge of lightweight document formats including Markdown, reStructuredText, and HTML/ CSS
  • Familiar with one or more lightweight document management systems such as ReadMe.io, Read The Docs, Apiary, and GitBook
  • Familiar with tools and libraries for document production, format conversion (XML, PDF, etc), and automation as part of software builds
  • Familiar with RESTful documentation frameworks such as Swagger and RAML
  • Ability to write simple code in a scripting language for content manipulation and task automation
  • Ability to figure out and validate functionality independently by interacting with the product (installation/configuration/testing)
  • Curiosity with technology and willingness to try new things
  • Great attention to details while not losing focus and priority
  • Strong visual, verbal and written communication skills
