WHO WE ARE:

ActBlue builds and maintains a powerful online fundraising platform for Democratic campaigns, progressive organizations, and nonprofits working to create a better future. We put power in the hands of small-dollar donors by making it easier for grassroots supporters to make their voices heard and by helping thousands of groups — from presidential candidates to environmental organizations —  build people-powered movements.

If you’ve ever given online to a Democratic candidate or progressive organization, chances are you’ve used our software. We’re a tech-nonprofit organization, and our team has a big impact on the future of our country. Each and every one of us, from the political activists to the tech innovators to the customer service pros, is fully committed to our mission.

THE OPPORTUNITY:

The Social Media Associate’s role is to communicate effectively with our users via social media. This includes handling customer service inquiries in a friendly manner, writing content for our various social media accounts that fits into the strategy set by team leaders, and to closely monitor conversations happening across social media in order to gain insights on what messaging will resonate. They will use data to inform and drive their writing and brainstorming, and constantly be thinking about the audience on each social media platform and how best to engage with each one.

WHAT YOU WILL DO:

  • Identify and handle customer service concerns via Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram, meeting ActBlue’s high customer service standards by being friendly, approachable, and efficient;
  • Closely monitor conversations happening across social media and press channels and escalate as needed;
  • Draft and coordinate project-based social media campaigns (such as monthly and quarterly blog posts or hitting major fundraising milestones), including content and graphics;
  • Produce new data-driven social media content daily to fit within themes established by the Social Media Director, with an ongoing and consistent focus on engaging small-dollar donors;
  • Bring new and innovative ideas to the table for social media-driven content campaigns;
  • Closely follow current events spanning a wide range of topics while also seeking out relevant context and/or details in order to inform ActBlue’s own content;
  • Consistently and proactively communicate about trends, issues, or standout conversations happening across channels to the wider team during monitoring shifts;
  • Work nights and weekends as needed (sometimes on short notice based on what’s happening politically);
  • Play an active role in measuring and analyzing performance of content across social media channels;
  • Serve as a social media fundraising resource by keeping up with trends and maintaining a repository of small-dollar fundraising done well via social;
  • Demonstrate good judgement by seeking out situational context and weighing risk and reward, in order to effectively make decisions about handling conversations;
  • Play an active role in rapid response and crisis communications as needed, giving input on statements and strategy.

WHAT YOU BRING:

  • Demonstrated experience and success managing or contributing to social media channels for a brand, community, campaign, or organization;
  • Strong writing and creative thinking skills;
  • Attention to detail — especially during rapid response;
  • Excellent judgement and the ability to work calmly under pressure;;
  • Cultural awareness with an interest in current trends in social media;
  • Demonstrated ability to be flexible and work through ambiguity — you're able to think on your feet and shift gears quickly;
  • Ability to build strong relationships both internally and externally;
  • Ability to manage multiple social media campaigns and hit metrics-based goals while remaining responsive to daily internal and external communications;
  • Ability to determine priorities and manage time within multiple projects and workstreams;
  • Desire to continue to grow professionally in order to produce the best work possible;
  • Curiosity and motivation to dive into metrics and data to help inform content creation;
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity and inclusion in all dimensions of your work.

BONUS POINTS IF:

  • You have experience with social media management platforms and their scheduling and analytics tools
  • You have experience creating content for and utilizing paid social media ads

An Insider's view of ActBlue

How would you describe the company’s work-life balance?

ActBlue has incredible work life balance! Unlimited PTO is a lifesaver. I organize outside of work for local elections, mutual aid, & direct action, and sometimes that happens during the workday. Having sufficient time to rest also helps me be more motivated & enjoy work. The culture treats PTO with respect & no one is guilted for taking time off.

Crystal

Data Engineer

What projects are you most excited about?

Our team is in the beginning stages of a Roles and Permissions overhaul for our Campaign and Non-Profit users. We will be adding the ability for these entities to grant varying access levels for different users. We hope this will allow for more users to be added to the platform, while keeping their data secure.

Nate

Senior Software Engineer

How has your career grown since starting at the company?

When I first started at ActBlue in 2019, I didn’t write any code. Thanks to the supportive, mentorship-focused approach within the organization, I was given the space to learn and grow my engineering skill set. I paired regularly with my peers, did coursework, and was empowered to take on projects outside of my comfort zone.

Alli

Senior Product Designer

How do you empower your team to be more creative?

Fostering creativity starts with trust. I think innovation comes when we give individuals the autonomy to solve problems, not just build prescribed solutions. Our team collaborates early and often, empowers individuals to understand the why instead of just the what, and encourages risk through a culture of learning through iteration.

Ani

Senior Engineering Manager

What are some things you learned at the company?

As a more "seasoned" member of ActBlue, I appreciate the company's commitment to Diversity and Inclusion. I learn something new almost every single day. Working here is helping me be a better person.

Martin

Engineering Manager, DevOps
