The Director, Segment Marketing is responsible for leading a team of marketers to create and execute an integrated marketing plan for one of athenahealth’s key market segments. You will lead every aspect of the buyer’s journey, including determining positioning, personas, content, competitive analysis, and external communications. You’ll work with a cross-functional team to produce a winning go to market strategy from beginning to end.
In this role, you will lead a team of portfolio (product) marketing and demand generation experts. You will enable the portfolio marketing team to determine positioning, market analysis, segmenting, targeting, buyer personas and more, becoming the voice of the buyer. You’ll enable the demand generation team to create a buyer’s journey that brings more prospects into market and moves them through the funnel at an unprecedented pace. You’ll own overall marketing performance and analysis of your segment in close partnership with your sales segment GM counterpart.
You possess strong technical marketing skills combined with excellent written and verbal communications skills. You are equally at ease building compelling go to market plans as you are engaging with industry influentials and executives. You have the ability to analyze and diagnose complex technical and business challenges, formulate out of the box solutions, and influence cross-functional stakeholders.
You have and will continue to build a strong marketing aptitude, leadership skills and industry acumen. You will be able to generate high-impact ideas, clearly prioritize workloads, manage multiple projects simultaneously and drive them to completion.
Education & Experience Required:

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Minimum 12 years in Marketing, preferably in multiple roles
  • Proven experience working with sales teams and supporting programs to drive awareness and sales; actual sales experience is highly desirable
  • Ability to demonstrate track record of success in all key areas of responsibility
  • Highly motivated individual who thrives in a fast-paced team environment and is readily adaptable to changing market and organizational requirements
  • Ability to consistently produce results on time and within budget
  • Ability to align tactical plans with strategies
  • Inbound marketing strategy/execution experience
  • Impressive track record of inspiring and leading both with or without direct reporting structure

Knowledge & Skills:

  • Planning/project management
  • People leadership and mentor capabilities
  • Able to go toe to toe with Senior Leadership
  • Leadership and initiative to drive business objectives
  • Agency management (helpful, but not required
  • Ability to understand decision impact on other areas of the business
  • Strong oral/written communications skills
  • Strong consultative marketing approach to effectively engage with sales and channel partner community
  • Ability to direct content building required for complex demand creation
