Patent Agent or Patent Counsel

Rapid7 is looking for a curious and talented junior Patent Attorney or Patent Agent to help us protect and manage our growing cybersecurity-related patent portfolio. This is a great opportunity to learn about how intellectual property is developed and protected at a cutting-edge public technology company, and to grow any existing patent prosecution skills and/or interest you may have. You’ll work on the most exciting intellectual property issues as disruptive technological innovations require creative legal guidance. In this role you will:
Learn about patent prosecution and portfolio management/development in the cybersecurity industry from seasoned patent lawyer(s).
Have a ground-level opportunity to build your patent prosecution skills.
Take effective invention disclosure meetings from our gifted engineers.
Draft creative and high-quality patent applications.
Respond to office actions and interview examiners.
Undertake USPTO-related formalities (assignments, declarations, etc.).
Proactively participate in the company's patent strategy.
In return you will bring:
6 months - 2 years of patent-related work experience or exposure.
Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or Computer Science, JD optional. No other undergraduate majors will be considered.
Registration to practice before the USPTO (or eligibility to sit for the Patent Bar).
Knowledge of PAIR and patent docketing.
Interest in drafting or learning how to draft patent applications for technologies including networking, databases, data storage, cybersecurity, and machine learning.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
