About the Role

We are seeking a detail-oriented and intellectually curious full-time, part-time, or flexible Legal Intern to join our Compliance & Legal team. This role is ideal for current 2L or 3L J.D. candidates, as well as recent law school graduates, who are interested in private equity, regulatory compliance, and the real-world practice of in-house counsel.

What makes this role unique is our hands-on operational model: in addition to managing fund-level legal matters, we also provide day-to-day legal services to our portfolio companies in the health and wellness space. As an intern, you’ll gain exposure to both sides of the legal profession—supporting private equity transactions and compliance initiatives while also engaging with in-house legal issues like contracts, intellectual property, and marketing law.

This is a rare opportunity to experience the intersection of finance, health & wellness, law, and technology in a dynamic, entrepreneurial setting.

This role is available on a full-time, part-time, or flexible basis, with the possibility of remote or hybrid arrangements depending on candidate location and availability.

Responsibilities

While the role is flexible and adaptive, key areas of engagement may include:

  • Private Equity & Compliance Support
  • Research regulatory frameworks including the Investment Advisers Act, SEC rules, AML, cybersecurity, and privacy (HIPAA, GDPR, state laws).
  • Assist in updating compliance manuals, risk assessments, and internal policies.
  • Help track regulatory trends impacting investment management and health/wellness brands.
  • In-House Counsel Exposure (Portfolio Companies)
  • Support drafting and reviewing basic commercial contracts (NDAs, vendor agreements, brand partnerships).
  • Conduct research and assist with corporate governance matters, such as board consents and entity records.
  • Assist in IP portfolio tracking (trademark filings, brand protection research).
  • Review and provide input on marketing materials, product labels, and social media campaigns for FDA/FTC compliance.
  • Research and summarize developments in technology law, privacy, and digital advertising relevant to wellness brands.
  • File Management & Administrative Functions
  • Maintain and organize legal files, contracts, and compliance documents in electronic systems.
  • Support document tracking, version control, and internal database management.
  • Assist with scheduling, preparation of meeting materials, and other administrative tasks as needed to support the legal team.

Requirements

Ideal Candidate

  • J.D. candidates (2L–3L) or recent law school graduates
  • Strong interest in private equity, investment management, or in-house counsel practice.
  • Excellent research, writing, and organizational skills, with attention to detail.
  • Professional, proactive, and comfortable working in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment.
  • Familiarity with securities, health law, privacy, or advertising regulations is a plus, but not required.

What You’ll Gain

  • Exposure to private equity transactions and compliance frameworks that shape modern investment firms.
  • Real-world experience in in-house counsel work, including contracts, governance, intellectual property, and marketing law.
  • Practical skills in legal operations and file management that are critical to supporting any legal team.
  • Hands-on involvement in the day-to-day legal operations of portfolio companies.
  • Mentorship from a team with backgrounds in law, compliance, finance, and health & wellness.
  • Flexibility to balance academic commitments with professional development in a long-term internship role.

Benefits

Compensation & Duration

  • Flexible, ongoing internship tailored to law school schedules.
  • Compensation: Paid

What you need to know about the Boston Tech Scene

Boston is a powerhouse for technology innovation thanks to world-class research universities like MIT and Harvard and a robust pipeline of venture capital investment. Host to the first telephone call and one of the first general-purpose computers ever put into use, Boston is now a hub for biotechnology, robotics and artificial intelligence — though it’s also home to several B2B software giants. So it’s no surprise that the city consistently ranks among the greatest startup ecosystems in the world.

Key Facts About Boston Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 269,000; 9.4% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Thermo Fisher Scientific, Toast, Klaviyo, HubSpot, DraftKings
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, biotechnology, robotics, software, aerospace
  • Funding Landscape: $15.7 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Summit Partners, Volition Capital, Bain Capital Ventures, MassVentures, Highland Capital Partners
  • Research Centers and Universities: MIT, Harvard University, Boston College, Tufts University, Boston University, Northeastern University, Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory, National Bureau of Economic Research, Broad Institute, Lowell Center for Space Science & Technology, National Emerging Infectious Diseases Laboratories
