Instrument is a digitally native design and technology company built to help brands unlock their full potential. Since 2005, our 300+ team of makers, thinkers, and storytellers has partnered with leading brands like Google, Nike, Uber, ŌURA, and Eventbrite to craft digital experiences that create impact and drive results.

Unlike traditional agencies, we don’t just design—we build. Our work lives at the intersection of taste and technology, powered by curiosity, thoughtful curation, and a commitment to delivering the most fitting solution for every brief. We bring this to life across three core offerings: Brand, Marketing, and Product.

As a member of our freelance network, you’ll collaborate with our teams to bring bold ideas to life—whether launching new brands, building digital products, or shaping experiences that move people. We welcome collaborators from all backgrounds and experiences who share our curiosity, creativity, and care for craft.

We believe great work comes from diverse perspectives and shared purpose. If you’re passionate about learning, experimenting, and making work that matters, we’d love to hear from you.

Are you an experienced motion designer with a passion for creating visually stunning content? Have you worked with agencies before and know how to collaborate under tight deadlines and high expectations? We’re especially looking to expand our freelance network in South America and are seeking seasoned motion designers to join our growing freelance roster and collaborate with a dynamic, international team on impactful projects.

We value creativity, expertise, and collaboration, and we’re especially looking for designers who bring years of experience working in fast-paced agency environments. If you're a pro at delivering high-quality motion design, creating compelling stories, and working in a remote, global team, we'd love to have you in our freelance roster. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to a variety of projects and push the boundaries of motion design. Engagements vary, with many projects requiring full-time availability.

Joining our roster means we may reach out when we have a project that aligns with your experience, availability, and craft. If you’re energized by collaboration, driven by craft, and excited about contributing your talent to impactful, design-forward work, we’d love to hear from you.

What You Bring

  • Training in Graphic Design, Motion Design, or a related field
  • 3+ years of professional experience with a portfolio you’re proud of and a clear explanation of your role in each project

  • A curious, fearless approach to problem-solving and a love for storytelling through animation
  • Clear communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Flexibility to jump in at any stage of a project and the ability to work across time zones with a remote team

What you need to know about the Boston Tech Scene

Boston is a powerhouse for technology innovation thanks to world-class research universities like MIT and Harvard and a robust pipeline of venture capital investment. Host to the first telephone call and one of the first general-purpose computers ever put into use, Boston is now a hub for biotechnology, robotics and artificial intelligence — though it’s also home to several B2B software giants. So it’s no surprise that the city consistently ranks among the greatest startup ecosystems in the world.

Key Facts About Boston Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 269,000; 9.4% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Thermo Fisher Scientific, Toast, Klaviyo, HubSpot, DraftKings
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, biotechnology, robotics, software, aerospace
  • Funding Landscape: $15.7 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Summit Partners, Volition Capital, Bain Capital Ventures, MassVentures, Highland Capital Partners
  • Research Centers and Universities: MIT, Harvard University, Boston College, Tufts University, Boston University, Northeastern University, Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory, National Bureau of Economic Research, Broad Institute, Lowell Center for Space Science & Technology, National Emerging Infectious Diseases Laboratories
