Join our highly motivated supply chain team as we deliver thousands of advanced composite and metal 3D printers to our customers around the world. We strive to manage the complexity of our global supply chain with the precision of a small special-forces team. We move fast, appreciate creative solutions, and adapt to our hyper-growing business needs. We promote good ideas from anyone, call out our own mistakes, do not care much about internal politics, have a sense of humor, and aim to be the best supply chain team in our industry.

As our team’s MBA intern, you will be given a substantial project that will solve an immediate operations need. We have hundreds of SKUs sourced and assembled from various partners. Your challenge is to plan material production, movements, and stocking to support both internal factories, external partners, and fulfillment warehouses.

Example projects might be a combination of the following:

- Total Supplier Risk Analysis: Where are the time bombs in our supply base, how do we find them, and what are the highest bang-for-the-buck actions we can take to reduce risk?

- Global Distribution Strategy Analysis: Take a broad view of the trends in how companies like Markforged should adapt to global macro changes. Brexit? Trade war with China? Importing into Brazil? Shortage of LTL freight carrying capacity?

- External Benchmarking on 3D Fulfillment Best Practices: Look at all of our competitors are doing, and tell us what we should be doing better to improve the customer ordering experience.

- Deep dive into our logistics network and figure out if we have the right mix of carriers and customs brokers for the future.

- Develop / refine a set of supply chain metrics that we can use for longer term analysis. We have day-to-day metrics, but not a set of metrics that tell us the health of the whole system over time.

- Introduce machine learning / AI to our demand and logistics planning. AI is supposed to revolutionize everything. Why are we still fat-fingering rows and rows of Excel formulas?

Our supply chain evolves rapidly every quarter. While we can't tell you exactly what we need you to solve for us nine months from now, we can promise that the problem will be urgent, fascinating, and aligned to your skill set.

What You'll Be Doing

  • 60% of your time: Do deep and great work on a project that will improve our supply chain and provide us the critical insight that we will use long after your internship is over. The deliverable is a report with data, piloted actions, and next steps.
  • 30% of your time: Help is with short term issues like, “Work with so-and-so to figure out how we solve X this week so we never have to talk about it again.”
  • 10% of your time: A unique project of your choosing to support Markforged as a whole employing your unique talents. This will let you learn about other parts of the business while also contributing meaningfully in a serendipitous way.

You Have:

  • Organization and are detail-oriented and able to prioritize in the face of intense complexity.
  • The ability to clearly communicate with both internal teams and external partners.
  • A positive attitude and a willingness to learn, adapt, and self-start.
  • The ability to function autonomously and focus in a dynamic environment.
  • A desire to work with functional teams to solve planning and logistics challenges.
  • The ability to detect subtle demand pattern changes, come up with a plan, execute it, and course correct as necessary.
  • Curiosity to dive into new areas, and appreciate frameworks.
  • A healthy sense of humor for when plans don’t go as planned.
  • A relentless desire to improve processes.
  • Impeccable integrity and character.

What We Look For:

  • Currently pursuing an MBA degree at an accredited educational institution.
