Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and hands-on Financial Controller to be a foundational leader in our finance team. This is a builder’s role, perfect for a proven accounting professional who thrives on creating structure, implementing best practices, and scaling processes in a dynamic growth environment.

Reporting to the CFO, the Financial Controller will own all aspects of the accounting operations, ensuring the integrity and timeliness of our financial reporting. You will be responsible for building a robust control environment, managing the annual audit, and mentoring our junior accountant. The ideal candidate is a detail-oriented, tech-savvy problem solver with deep experience in Fintech SaaS accounting. This is a fully remote position. East coast time zone preferred.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

● Oversee, mentor, and develop the Junior Accountant responsible for daily accounting activities, including AP, AR, and journal entries.

● Manage the workflow and performance of the accounting team to ensure deadlines are met and quality standards are upheld.

Duties/ Responsibilities:

Financial Reporting & Close: Own the full-cycle monthly and annual financial close process, ensuring accurate, timely, and GAAP-compliant financial statements.

Audit & Tax Leadership: Act as the primary point of contact for external auditors. Lead the preparation for and execution of the annual financial audit and support the finalization of federal and state tax returns.

Technical Accounting: Serve as the company's subject matter expert on technical accounting matters, including ASC 606 (Revenue Recognition) for our complex subscription and services model, and ASC 805 (Business Combinations) related to a recent acquisition.

Billing & Revenue Operations: Take ownership of the end-to-end billing process. Work with technical teams to improve system outputs, reduce manual spreadsheet work, and ensure 100% accuracy and completeness of customer invoicing and collections.

Process Improvement & Internal Controls: Design, implement, and document key financial policies, procedures, and internal controls from the ground up to support the company's growth and ensure audit readiness.

Cash Management: Manage daily cash operations, including vendor payments (AP), customer collections (AR), and short-term cash flow forecasting to ensure operational liquidity.

Team Leadership: Manage and mentor the junior accountant, fostering a culture of accuracy, continuous improvement, and professional growth.

Strategic Partnership: Partner closely with the CFO to support strategic initiatives, provide key data for financial analysis, and assist with board and management reporting.

● Performs other related duties as assigned.

Required Skills/ Abilities:

● Expert knowledge of US GAAP is essential.

● Deep, practical experience with revenue recognition under ASC 606 for B2B SaaS companies.

● Experience with purchase accounting (ASC 805) and post-acquisition integration is strongly preferred.

● A "builder" mindset with a demonstrated ability to create, document, and implement financial processes and controls where they don't currently exist.

● Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain complex accounting concepts to non-financial stakeholders.

● Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.

● A high degree of ownership, accountability, and the ability to work independently to drive results.

● Proficient in accounting software, SAGE INTACCT preferred.

● Proficient in Google Workspace or similar software, google sheets in particular.

Education and Experience:

● Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required.

● Certified Public Accountant or Certified Management Accountant designation preferred.

● Minimum of 7+ years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 2 years in a Controller or Assistant Controller role.

● Experience in the B2B SaaS industry is preferred

● Experience working in a high-growth environment is highly desirable.

● Experience with the banking or credit union sector is a significant plus.

Physical Requirements:

● Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.

● Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
