The Tax Senior Manager is responsible for managing HubSpot’s worldwide tax function. Person will continuously interact with finance, sales, business enablement (IT department), and other departments to ensure that HubSpot is compliant in all aspects of tax and will also build the tax function as the Company looks to continue it’s significant top-line revenue growth that will eventually lead to being a tax-payer in the US.

Person will initially be a team of one upon hire that manages several service providers and after assessing the needs of the tax department will be responsible for hiring a tax senior to execute and manage tasks as the Tax Senior Manager sees fit.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manage the completion of federal, state and international tax returns and all related analysis and support
  • Coordinate and manage the accounting for income taxes and tax returns for international subsidiaries with third party vendors
  • Monitor the US state and local sales-tax regulations around SaaS products and ensure that HubSpot maintains compliance in all states/cities
  • Liaise with IT department on tax technical matters to ensure various billing systems are appropriately applying sales tax
  • Manage the monthly sales tax payment process with third party vendor
  • Prepare the quarterly income tax provision (including analysis and compiling support) and manage the external auditors audit of the provision
  • Ensure that appropriate internal controls are documented and executed to ensure compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley
  • Manage transfer pricing agreements, calculation and recording of intercompany entries, and settling payable balances as appropriate
  • Maintain appropriate documentation for federal and state R&D credits
  • Manage governmental audits as they occur
  • Liaise with operating management on tax issues as they arise
  • Develop roadmap for tax department structure and hiring as HubSpot continues to grow
  • Develop tax planning strategy to minimize global tax footprint as HubSpot moves towards being a profitable company

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in tax
  • 8-12 years of tax experience in the technology or life-sciences industry with approximately 5 years in public accounting (SaaS industry experience preferred but not necessary)
  • Experience with CRM and GL systems (SFDC and Netsuite preferred but not necessary)
  • Ability to speak “plain English” when it comes to tax matters and explain issues at a level that an inexperienced tax professional can understand
  • Must embrace technology and computer skills need to be second nature
  • Must be willing to “roll-up sleeves” and execute tasks in addition to delegating work
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work well with others
  • Be self-directed and motivated
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to manage multiple conflicting priorities
  • Must be flexible and available to work with employees at all levels of the organization
