Our Opportunity:

Chewy is seeking a Tax Manager in Boston, MA to manage the completion of our annual and quarterly tax provisions and to facilitate the accurate preparation and filing of our company’s federal tax forms. The ideal candidate is a team player who manages the tax team to greater performance, creates and implements tax plans and works with the accounting and leadership teams to identify opportunities for process improvement and potential areas of risk. The Tax Manager will ensure compliance with all tax laws through a series of systems and system controls that are designed to ensure accurate, timely reporting. They will monitor current and impending changes to tax regulation and make the appropriate updates to policies and strategies. The ideal candidate is single minded in their pursuit of ensuring compliance and achieves this goal through optimizing reporting procedures and driving the successful function of the tax team.

What You’ll Do:

  • Manage the processing, analyzing, and reconciling of the federal income tax return filings and supporting workpapers. This includes gathering and analyzing financial information to effectively & efficiently generate tax returns, as well as ensuring that supporting work papers and files are maintained while providing a clear audit trail to source/support documentation.
  • Review Federal, tax returns, extensions and quarterly estimated tax payments at the corporate level and for related subsidiaries.
  • Manage a tax calendar to assure all tax returns and tax payments are filed timely.
  • Review reconciliations on tax general ledger accounts to verify account balances.
  • Resolve notices and assessments with taxing authorities and negotiating minimum payouts including preparation of responses, protests, and appeals.
  • Manage the preparation of annual tax provision calculation and ASC740 analysis.
  • Assist in federal tax audit defense.
  • Assist in analysis of proposed transactions for the purpose of identifying federal income tax consequences; advising of material tax impacts and recommending alternative course of action, when appropriate.
  • Analyze new tax laws, regulations, reporting requirements, and court cases, and implement those that impact the tax compliance and/or tax audit defense.
  • Identify and coordinate tax savings opportunities in income and non-income tax areas (e.g. property).
  • Work closely with State & Local Tax Manager to ensure consistency in all tax reporting and filings.
  • Recommend process improvements
  • Communicate with Associate Tax Director and Tax Director on all projects regarding timelines, challenges, and/or issues.

What You’ll Need:

  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in income tax, with at least 3 years in public accounting
  • Knowledge of tax related laws and regulations.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting
  • Extensive knowledge with Income Tax and knowledge of state taxes (including real and tangible personal property).
  • Strong research, accounting ledger, and reconciliation skills.
  • Superior organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks.
  • Extensive knowledge and use of Microsoft Excel.
  • Excellent analytical, written and verbal communication skills an interpersonal skill; solid team player
  • Ability to maintain a high level of accuracy in performing all essential duties.
  • Ability to multi-task, use independent judgment and sound decision-making skills, and can work independently with minimal management oversight.
  • Knowledge of One Source Income Tax is a plus.
  • Knowledge of international income tax is a plus.
  • Minimal to no travel expected
