About the role:
Abacus Insights is looking for a Sr. Staff Accountant to join our small, versatile, and energetic Finance team. This individual will be responsible for all things accounting and will work strategically with management and executive teams. Along with the mastery of the typical day-to-day responsibilities of a Sr. Staff Accountant, this person will have an eye for automation and streamlining inefficient processes. We are searching for someone passionate about rolling up their sleeves, discovering areas of opportunity to improve, and recommending and implementing practical solutions. Maybe the best part of doing this work is doing it at a mission-driven company and being a part of a team solving the most complex, pressing, and significant challenges in healthcare.

You will:

  • Be responsible for month-end close procedures, including preparing monthly journal entries, account reconciliation, and analysis of results.
  • Identify and implement financial and operational systems and process improvements to help reduce time to close and improve the accuracy of underlying accounting records.
  • Assist with development and maintenance of documentation of all accounting policies and procedures.
  • Work closely with auditors throughout the year to ensure that the quality of our accounting records is audit-ready.
  • Prepare customer invoices and manage accounts receivable.
  • Manage accounts payable activities, including processing invoices, processing employee reimbursements, and managing expense reporting system.
  • Administer payroll, collaborate with People team on new hire compensation and benefit updates, and tax and employment filings.
  • Work with business leads to generate various accruals for cross-functional departments and overall corporate accounting activities.
  • Understand and manage revenue recognition policy for platform and services contracts.
  • Be a key stakeholder for R&D and implementation projects to ensure proper accounting.
  • Play a vital role in the budgeting and re-forecasting process.
  • Assist in special projects as they arise.

What we're looking for:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting
  • 5+ years of operational accounting experience
  • Strong analytical and accounting skills
  • Strong financial and operational systems experience
  • Experience with NetSuite
  • Proficiency in MS Excel
  • Ability to explain concepts clearly
  • Planning and organization, attention to detail
  • Ability to multitask, work under pressure, and drive your work
