Quantitative Strategist, Financial Insights
The Opportunity
We seek an Quantitative Financial Strategist to join our team. This role is ideal for a business analytics professional looking to apply their statistical, quantitative and technical skills to generate new financial insights and predictions.
The Team
Our team is technically skilled, collaborative, and intellectually curious. You will apply business logic, contemporary software tools, and modern quantitative methods, e.g., including machine learning, data visualization, and statistical analysis, to help frame and solve important business problems across multiple domains at MassMutual. Quantitative Analysts will evaluate existing models and identify potential improvements, create models to automate forecasting, conduct deep forensic dives into our data, and improve the visualization and interpretation of complex, multi-dimensional data sets.
The Impact
- Partner with Corporate Finance and other business units to help identify and solve critical business problems using a wide range of statistical methods, including regression analysis, exploratory data analysis, classification, visualization, hypothesis testing, and machine learning.
- Assist in the identification of high-value use cases and pragmatic approaches to generate financial insights
- Provide technical and quantitative support for our quarterly enterprise production forecast
- Work with other senior team members for ongoing development of core parts of our enterprise forecasting platform
- Assess solution options and algorithms to support analysis
- Rapidly prototype and develop analytical models to evaluate problems, identify insights, and deliver predictions using MassMutual data
- Identify the integration needed to operationalize insights into reporting or other planning/forecasting processes and tools
- Work with data engineering and digital reporting teams to automate analysis, integrate new data, and provide effective ways to communicate analytical results
- Take deep dives into the nuances and details of our data
The Minimum Qualifications
- Graduate degree in statistics, mathematics, engineering, computer science, economics, finance, business analytics, or related technical field
- Demonstrated knowledge of data analytics skills, including regression analysis, hypothesis testing, data transformations, and visualization
- Demonstrated knowledge of programming skills in python, R, or other common programming language
- Experience with common analytical software libraries such as numpy, pandas, matplotlib, scikit-learn, etc.
- Knowledge of key financial concepts and financial statements
- Knowledge of SQL or another database language
- Knowledge of machine learning or other advanced quantitative or statistical methods
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Ability to work collaboratively in small team settings, but also comfortable working individually
- Creative, energetic, and persistent problem solver
The Ideal Qualifications
- 3 years of relevant experience
- PhD in a quantitative field of study
- Ability to navigate complexity and ambiguity and formulate innovative and practical next steps
- Knowledge of the life insurance industry and the financial services domain
- Experience working in an agile development environment
- Ability to identify, conceptualize, and develop analytical solutions to business challenges
