The Opportunity 

 

Currently the MassMutual Procurement team is going through a transformation to become best in class for contract lifecycle management and Source-to-Pay processes.

 

We are looking for a Contracts pro who can manage the full end-to-end contract strategy, including formulating the commercial deal terms, representing our functional business partners all while interfacing with the Legal team and Supplier through to the conclusion of the contracting process.

The Impact

 

Our Contracts Lead Manager will need to be an expert at orchestrating multiple simultaneous projects requiring frequent communication, organization, time management, and problem-solving skills on a day-to-day basis. You will be an expert on formulating strong legal positions post business award.

 

As the leader of the Contracts team, you will be accountable for developing a high-performing team that will work efficiently and independently, managing a high volume of tasks and projects with little guidance. You will need to nurture a team environment that is creative, proactive and can solve problems as well as one that promotes a sense of urgency to matters which require a quick turnaround.

 

The Minimum Qualifications 

  • A minimum of 7+ years working experience with contract lifecycle management

  • At least 2 years of managing onshore and offshore teams

  • A minimum of 7+ years of negotiation experience with primary responsibility quality of agreements; and negotiating a broad range of standard commercial contracts within Procurement

  • Proven ability to negotiate MSA, MHSA, MPA, PSA, Statements of Work, Work Orders, LOI, MOU, Term Sheets, used by the Procurement organization, including legal practice standards and playbook guidelines set by the Legal Department

  • Experienced at assessing risk and concisely explaining complex issues to both legal and non-legal professionals

The Ideal Qualifications

  • Operates with significant autonomy and discretion in communicating with Legal, the Business unit Procurement Category Managers, Sourcing and Supplier Relationship ManagementInfluences at all levels of leadership, both internally and externally to deliver results.

  • Serves as the principal subject matter expert in all standard contracts, and almost all external contracts

  • Develops contract practice standards, operating procedures and systems that enable the broader team of Category Managers to scale and work more efficiently and effectively

  • Orchestrates the end-to-end process from kickoff to full execution while communicating these results through weekly metrics reporting

  • Garners executive stakeholder input on complex projects, framing issues simply and concisely to obtain buy-off to move forward with key decisions/initiatives

  • Strong project management skills, including adhering to stakeholder timelines, and meeting management skills

  • Extensive knowledge of the basic types of commercial agreement structures and the function and purpose of key legal terms

  • Extremely customer-focused, taking the time to understand the needs of the business and legal

  • Experience working in a large, global, highly matrixed organization, and works easily in multi-business unit project settings; able to facilitate teamwork across corporate boundaries

  • Proven written and oral communicator, with strategic, analytical, and interpersonal skills to act as an effective change agent, unlocking barriers to quickly move contracts to closure

  • Ability to manage multiple simultaneous projects requiring frequent communication, organization, time management, and problem-solving skills
