Lead Pension Actuary
POSITION SUMMARY
The Defined Benefit Actuarial team provides valuation and consulting services on the funding and de-risking strategies and plan design of qualified defined benefit retirement plans. The annual valuations determine the required and permitted contributions, provides information for company accounting reporting and government filing purposes, necessary to retain the plan’s tax qualified status.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Leads and engages a team of actuarial analysts in providing excellence in service to MassMutual’s defined benefit plan clients and participants
- Consults with clients on all aspects of their retirement program with a focus on their DB plan.
- Uses judgment to engage other resources (internal and external) as needed.
- Coordinates/oversees resources to deliver/manage client deliveries, such as plan design, funding and accounting strategies, nondiscrimination testing, general compliance, PPA/ERISA requirements, implementation of plan mergers and terminations, review of government filings, delivery of annual results and filings.
- Responsible for the quality, clarity and timely delivery of all actuarial services to the clients.
- Actively consults on integrated investment/funding strategies including Liability Driven Investing, glide path and hedging of pension risks.
- Positively represents our DB capabilities and supports marketing endeavors and business development opportunities.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s Degree in Math, Finance or Actuarial Science
- Enrolled Actuary (EA) designation and/or Associate of Society of Actuaries or Fellow of Society of Actuaries (FSA)
- 8+ years of Pension Actuarial experience
- Proven track record with leading a team and prior management experience
- Advanced knowledge of Excel, Word, and ability to learn new systems quickly
- Service excellence and leadership quality while inspiring others.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills; able to simplify complex issues, methodologies, and provides resolutions such that others can readily understand them
- Ability to manage multiple, complex tasks and meet tight deadlines with focus on quality and excellent client service
- Adaptable to changing priorities and continually look for new ways to improve processes
- Organized, attentive to detail, team player and still able to work independently
- Authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship now or in the future
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- 10+ years of Pension Actuarial experience
