The Opportunity

As a Financial Analysis & Expense Consultant, you'll define, develop, and provide financial expense analysis to the MMUS Operations Leadership Team that helps to identify and realize strategic opportunities for unit cost improvement. You'll also assist with projects and special studies supporting areas such as organization's operational effectiveness, capacity utilization and operating cost containment.

The Team

The MMUS Insurance Operations Strategic Planning organization is a cross-functional team focused on supporting and preparing the business to align with strategic priorities of MassMutual. We specialize in transformational change, short- and long-term strategy planning & execution to ensure alignment with strategic investments. This team includes functions such as organizational communications & change management, learning & performance, MMUS Retail Project Management and financial management & oversight. As part of this team, you will be exposed to a wide range of business functions and joining a multi-faceted, high performing team.

The Impact

As a Financial Analysis & Expense Consultant your responsibilities will include, but not be limited to the following:

Strategy / Planning

  • Understands vision/mission and connection of future state solutions
  • Translates organizational strategies into clear objectives and business actions from
  • Drive opportunities / projects that will improve operational efficiency and unit cost improvement
  • Lead various project efforts across MMUS as needed

Financial Analysis

  • Scans the environment to identify activities that re-shape the business to meet strategic objectives
  • Applies best in class research methodologies and investigative techniques to design and conduct analysis with the purpose of improving operational efficiency and enhance profitability
  • Integrates information from customers, markets, and industry work groups to define context for decision making
  • Development of Cost Benefit Analysis (CBA) as assigned
  • Connect strategic and tactical projects to benefit realization
  • Serving as the single point of contact for all finance messaging and related analytics
  • Ensuring insightful, compelling, unified storytelling, that is timely and transparent, in support of MMUS Operations financial performance
  • Developing an effective financial dialogue between executive leadership and internal / external stakeholders
  • Drives deep financial analysis and effective communications in support of MMUS Operations financial performance
  • Collaborates closely with various internal teams to educate and inform key audiences through financial messaging

Data Management / Reporting

  • Uses data to make convincing business arguments by presenting the logical flow of data, interpretations, conclusions and resulting recommendations
  • Interprets data and articulates both the value and inherent limitation(s) of it
  • Maintains budget management and FTE reporting for defined cost centers using various financial BPS tools (Anaplan/Finx/SAP) and develops budget reporting package to track organizational progress
  • Drive all phases of the expense lifecycle via MassMutual's Anaplan based Forecasting tool, the FinX Forecaster
  • Maintain and enhance the robust end-to-end financial forecasting models in Anaplan to ensure it is driver based.
  • Enhance the financial reporting structure and process
  • Ensure Anaplan data is accurately reflected to the data lake and FinX Dashboards
  • Enhance overall forecast /plan governance to ensure that the process is operationalized and executed in a consistent manner every time
  • Influence in the design of future forecast processes and integrating strategic initiatives
  • Serve as an internal expert, consultant, and resource accountable for budget, forecast, and actuals
  • Collaborate on strategic initiatives such as Forecast transformation; promote and develop detailed reporting, and utilization metrics while ensuring excellent quality controls

The Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
  • 2+ years of experience in a quantitative and financial related position
  • 1+ year of experience in providing analysis in an actionable format for business leaders
  • 2+ years of experience with Excel including VLOOKUP, pivot tables, etc. 
  • 2+ years of experience using PowerPoint to convey a story
  • Experience with budgeting and forecasting finance software
  • Experience building out CBA & financial models
  • Financial competitive benchmarking analysis skills
  • Critical thinker with the ability to identify and relate business problems to data and vice versa
  • Strong quantitative and analytical mindset
  • Ability to navigate the business environment, work with senior leaders and work cross functionally with finance and other organizations as defined
  • Dynamic and proactive; flexible, resilient, and comfortable with ambiguity
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Possesses high business acumen to build and sustain effective relationships
  • Represents maturity, professionalism, commitment, and passion

The Ideal Qualifications

  • 3 - 5 years of experience in a quantitative and financial roles related position
  • Fundamental knowledge of Finance software such as Anaplan, Fix or SAP
