ESG Investing Strategist
This position will support all aspects of the ESG and responsible investing platform, including but not limited to, developing and driving ESG Investment strategy, positioning and communicating the top-of-the-house point of view, UNPRI coordination and reporting, supporting and developing tools for the effective integration and monitoring of ESG ratings, analytics and metric across our GIA holdings, underwriting ESG investment opportunities, engaging and influencing key stakeholders, and supporting/leading special projects. You'll achieve success by being the go-to resource in the resolution of complex ESG and responsible investment problems and a critical member on teams focused on solving these problems, ultimately maximizing returns for our policyholders and creating a sustainable model for capitalism in-line with our broader, firm-wide, sustainability commitment.
The ESG Investing team operates as part of MassMutual Investment Management (“IM”). IM drives the asset allocation and asset liability management for MassMutual's $200+ billion GIA. IM monitors and oversees the performance of both affiliated and unaffiliated managers for the GIA and directly selects certain opportunistic and strategic investments for the GIA. This role reports to the Head of Global Fixed Income & Head ESG Investing.
Responsibilities in this role:
- The primary responsibility of the ESG Strategist is to lead the development, coordination and execution of ESG investing across a broad platform of investments and to provide strategic investment decision recommendations that align with our ESG Investment Policy
- Develop the tools, resources, and workstreams needed to support and monitor MassMutual's role as signatory of the UNPRI
- Actively engage with Barings and outside asset managers on the integration, execution and reporting of ESG factors into investment policy and decision making
- Partner with internal and external asset managers to develop pathways to net zero greenhouse gas (“GHG”) emissions in the GIA by 2050
- Liaise with external organizations such as Net-Zero Asset Owner Alliance (“AOA”), Science Based Targets initiatives (“SBTi”), Climate Action 100+, and UNPRI to understand best in class ESG practices
- Conduct in-depth research of various ESG investment-related topics relative to evaluation of potential investment opportunities and current GIA holdings
- Monitor and analyze ESG ratings and other actionable ESG analytics and metrics, including GHG emissions, for investment holdings in accordance with Departmental Standard Work, to support investment decisions and strategy
- Liaise with the MassMutual Head of Sustainability to align the ESG investment strategy and execution with the broader firm-wide sustainability objectives
