Toast is looking for a Controller who wants to help build a world-class accounting organization by leading our accounting team to design and implement process and technology improvements that will  improve financial and strategic decision making across the company. Our team's mission is to timely deliver complete and accurate financial information that serves as a foundation for impactful financial decisions. 

We are looking for a high-EQ leader who will (re)design and implement financial processes to support Toast’s growth. You are someone experienced in and who cares about building and growing teams and are passionate about developing and sustaining strong, trusted business partner relationships. This role will develop close, trusted relationships with Tax, FP&A, IT, SEC Reporting, Technical Accounting, Revenue Accounting, Strategy, Internal Audit and all functions reporting into the CFO. In addition, they will forge strong partnerships with business teams (product, engineering, marketing, sales , etc. ) and ensure that accounting identifies and can provide early, relevant insight into business strategy/initiatives . 

About this Roll*: 

  • Grow, lead and develop a dynamic team, including hiring, developing, motivating and providing clear direction on strategy, goals,career & skill development
  • Leverage past experience to (re)design processes that are best-in-class, with a focus on automation, scale and accuracy.  Help evaluate potential finance and accounting IT solutions, and leverage internal and external resources to implement. 
  • Establish and implement Accounting policies and financial controls in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles and Toast standards as we tackle SOX.  Develop the program you’ve always wanted.
  • Develop positive relationships with the business functions with the goal of being a trusted business advisor. Keep communication lines open with the business to ensure proper partnership and involvement of the accounting team in business strategy and decision
  • Serve as one of the company's experts on accounting matters, partnering with other departments on structuring policies, and advising with respect to accounting implications
  • Monitor current trends in regulations related to accounting and reporting issues and provide support on technical accounting decisions and associated documentation
  • Responsible for the production and integrity of Toast’s domestic and consolidated financials in accordance with US GAAP
  • Maintain the integrity of all financial transactions and reporting of the company. Partners with the Financial systems team to leverage technology to improve efficiencies in our month end close
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with Toast’s accounting functions , including technical accounting and SOX reviews
  • Oversee all Core accounting functions including: general ledger accounting, payments accounting, etc. 

Do you have the right ingredients*: 

  • 15+ years with a mix of Big 4 and industry experience in a prior Corporate Controller role a plus
  • Bachelor's degree in business, finance or accounting; MBA a plus
  • Experience building and leading a world-class accounting team and infrastructure in a highly entrepreneurial , rapidly changing and growing environment
  • Experience evaluating, selecting and implementing accounting and finance systems, and driving change and project management with Product, Fin Tech , IT, and Tax teams
  • Strong ability to coach, mentor and develop team members
  • Proven success leading through change in unstructured environments
  • Ability to design and implement processes that are SOX compliant and scalable
  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills and customer orientation
  • Excellent communication (written, verbal) and partnership skills
  • Demonstrated knowledge of GAAP and SOX, current trends and developments
  • Industry and international experience highly valued
