Assistant Controller
This key role for the Kensho team will be responsible for managing the accounting and finance functions in coordination with the S&P Global FP&A team. In addition this role will provide hands-on support to Kensho team members to ensure timely assistant with all related matter, as well as supporting the management team on more strategic finance concerns.
What You'll Do:
Monthly Financial Close
· Support S&P Global accounting team by coordinating the required data from the Kensho team
· Review preliminary financials, complete variance analysis, and distribute to Kensho and S&P Global teams
Estimate & Budget
· Manage annual budget and monthly forecast deliverables with support from S&P Global team
· Create detail department budgets working closely with Kensho management
· Manage preparation of quarterly estimates, working proactively with Kensho management to ensure completeness and accuracy
· Coordinate headcount planning with Kensho HR team communicating updates to S&P Global team
· Meet with Kensho management team to review department results, review project plans, prep teams for QFR meetings, provide analysis and other special project support as needed
· Manage key vendor spend, working with Kensho management to identify and execute on cost saving opportunities
· Partner with S&P division team members on special projects
Operations
· Provide oversight of centralized accounting processes to ensure they are providing timely support to the Kensho team (AP, T&E, P-Cards, Procurement, Billing, and tax matters); coordinate escalations as needed
· Review and approve Kensho invoices, purchase orders, contracts, monthly p-card activity, and global mobility requests
· Facilitate problem resolution with other shared service departments including real estate, technology and other corporate departments as needed
· Provide key procurement support to Kensho team in coordination with S&P Global team and policies; ensure applicable orders and software renewals are processed in timely manner
· Provide hands-on support to Kensho team members on accounting and tax issues
· Manage other compliance requirements including internal audit
Other
· Provide support to Kensho management team on special projects, including modeling new business opportunities, and researching/implementing infrastructure in support of these opportunities
What You'll Need:
· Accounting degree and CPA preferable
· 5 to 6 years of experience in accounting and finance (start-up experience preferred)
· Very well organized and detail oriented
· High degree of problem solving ability, critical thinking, and creativity
· Candidate must be assertive to drive projects to completion in timely manner
· Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet short term deadlines
· Strong written and communication skills to effectively interact with all levels of personnel
· Ability to work independently and in a team environment
· Comprehensive knowledge of accounting practices (GAAP)
· Knowledge of Anaplan or other forecasting software strongly preferred
· Highly proficient with Excel required, Word and PowerPoint
