At EverQuote, we're embarking on an exciting transformation in our approach to data management, moving towards a Data Mesh as our future state. As the Engineering Manager - Data Enablement, you will be responsible for leading a team of engineers focused on building and scaling the EQ data platform. You will provide technical leadership to drive best practices in data engineering, data governance, and data product development, while also being a people leader—mentoring engineers, fostering career growth, and ensuring effective team collaboration.

Your team works closely with data analytics, data science, and software engineering teams to develop the tools, frameworks, and platforms that enable teams to build reliable, scalable, and well-governed data products. You will play a key role in helping us shape our data mesh strategy acting as a conduit between engineering and analytics.

Who you are:
  • Strong experience in data engineering, particularly in building scalable data platforms using cloud-native technologies.
  • Experience with modern data stack tools like dbt, Snowflake, Github and AWS.
  • Knowledge of data governance, security, and compliance standards.
  • Familiarity with data contracts, data mesh principles, and domain-driven data modeling.
  • Experience with CI/CD for data pipelines and best practices for observability and monitoring.
  • Prior experience as an engineering manager or tech lead with a track record of growing high-performing teams.
  • Strong cross-functional collaboration skills—ability to work with engineering, data science, analytics, and business teams.
  • Experience in driving adoption of self-service platforms and improving the developer experience.
  • Excellent stakeholder management and the ability to align technical execution with business priorities.
  • Experience working in a data mesh or distributed data ownership model.
  • Previous experience with data platform engineering in a lead generation, financial, or enterprise-scale environment.
  • Experience working in an enablement team that provides tools and services to other teams.

What you'll do:

  • Own and drive the data enablement strategy, ensuring teams can build and operate high-quality data products efficiently.
  • Provide technical direction for data engineering best practices, including data modeling, data contracts, governance, security, and compliance.
  • Ensure that the EQ data platform is scalable, cost-efficient, and user-friendly for engineering and analytics teams.
  • Drive adoption of self-service tooling for data discovery, lineage tracking, and data quality monitoring.
  • Partner with Platform Engineering to integrate cloud infrastructure, CI/CD practices, and observability into data workflows.
  • Collaborate with DS and analytics teams to ensure a seamless pipeline from raw data to production-ready models and insights.
  • Lead and grow a team of high-performing data engineers, fostering a strong culture of learning, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Provide mentorship and coaching to help engineers advance their careers and technical skills.
  • Foster a strong DevOps and engineering culture, with a focus on automation, developer experience, and self-service capabilities.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with cross-functional stakeholders, advocating for the right balance between innovation, delivery, and operational stability.
  • Work closely with product management and leadership to define team roadmaps, priorities, and key outcomes, aligning them with business objectives.
What Success Looks Like:
  • Standardization & Governance: Teams are successfully adopting data contracts, governance practices, and data engineering best practices.
  • Catalog for our data products: Engineering and analytics teams can self-serve most of their data needs through well observed and governed data products.
  • Scalability & Efficiency: Data pipelines and platforms are cost-efficient, scalable, and well-monitored.
  • Team Growth & Performance: Engineers feel supported in their growth, and the team consistently delivers high-impact work.

So it’s no surprise that the city consistently ranks among the greatest startup ecosystems in the world.

Key Facts About Boston Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 269,000; 9.4% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Thermo Fisher Scientific, Toast, Klaviyo, HubSpot, DraftKings
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, biotechnology, robotics, software, aerospace
  • Funding Landscape: $15.7 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Summit Partners, Volition Capital, Bain Capital Ventures, MassVentures, Highland Capital Partners
  • Research Centers and Universities: MIT, Harvard University, Boston College, Tufts University, Boston University, Northeastern University, Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory, National Bureau of Economic Research, Broad Institute, Lowell Center for Space Science & Technology, National Emerging Infectious Diseases Laboratories
