As VP, Software Engineering at Bullhorn, you will work closely with executives responsible for Product, Architecture, DevOps and Technical Operations to drive the growth of our international development centers, integrate acquired organizations into a standard operating model, and lead engineering practice evolution.

You will be critical in coaching and mentoring new and seasoned leaders in the software engineering team and in leading the execution strategy of the Product roadmap.  For this position, we are looking for strong leadership capabilities and a solid grasp of the SDLC, development methodologies and best practices.

Why this job is important:

  • Bullhorn has an extensive collection of products that need to interact seamlessly for our Bullhorn One initiative to be a success. To do so will require the coordination of multiple Scrum teams and effective prioritization of interdependent application roadmaps.

As a VP, Software Engineering, a typical day might include:

  • Coaching Directors, Managers and Leads on how to influence individuals within and outside of their team.

  • Guiding the team in the refinement and evolution of Bullhorn’s development methodology and engineering best practices.

  • Driving and monitoring the assumption of engineering talent from acquired assets into Bullhorn’s culture, structure and software delivery operations.

  • Tuning the investment mix across various product initiatives to maximize delivery ROI and Corporate Enterprise Value.

  • Modeling engineering capacity and rationalizing the financial implications required to achieve revenue growth targets.

  • Collaborating with the office of the CTO on emergent organizational strategies supporting 1.5x year-over-year growth in staff and team.

  • Collaborating with the VP, Product Management on the prioritization and execution of the roadmap for five or more products within the portfolio.

  • Collaborating with the VP, Architecture and DevOps on the prioritization and execution of non-functional, performance and stability concerns for five or more products within the portfolio.

  • Leading weekly leadership meetings and semi-annual leadership offsites.

  • Representing Bullhorn in customer executive forums, industry conferences, symposiums, and standards bodies.

  • Sharing knowledge and best practices across departments and disciplines within Bullhorn.

This job might be for you if:

  • You’ve earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or a related field.

  • You have 5+ years in a management role with a proven track record of leading effective SaaS-oriented distributed product teams, and are comfortable guiding leaders towards continuously improving processes.

  • You’ve developed layered structures to support organized and consistent delivery among 6+ scrum teams.

  • You’ve implemented scaled second-team forums to mature specific engineering disciplines such as quality assurance, scaled development methodology, API standards, OSS governance and product ownership.

  • You’ve driven operational maturity in areas such as hiring and onboarding, professional development, performance management, compensation philosophy, and financial planning.

  • You’ve created and executed concrete leadership succession plans or have presided over a significant organizational restructuring.

  • You have created investment and capacity models to aid in determining how to maximize talent deployment and anticipate future needs.

  • You’ve originated a net-new organization or engineering team, at home or abroad.

  • You are comfortable in communicating and debating strategic ideas both in writing and in person.

  • You have a keen ability to create and drive adoption of engineering process design documents.

  • You command executive presence and are adept at debating strategic alternatives with C-level executives.

Bonus points for:

  • Earning an advanced degree in Organizational Leadership, Business Administration or a related field.

  • Expertise in designing SaaS systems for fault tolerance and high availability under high concurrent load.

  • Exposure to application containerization (Kubernetes, Docker, etc.)
