DEVOPS AT PI:
Our DevOps vision is to create a self-service “Pit of Success” so that our engineering teams are empowered to build and run their services without handoffs and waiting for our team.
Technologies we currently use include GitHub, CircleCi, Octopus, Azure Cloud.
Technologies we’re implementing in 2022 include IaC (Bicep, Terraform) and Containerization (Docker, Kubernetes).
POSITION:
We’re looking for a driven DevOps Engineering Manager who has experience managing a small team of SREs & DevOps engineers. You will be the leader and a key contributor to our roadmap, determining which problems to solve, the ideal solution, scope, and resource requirements to drive to success. We are in the early stages of moving towards Infrastructure-as-Code and Containerization, so strong vision, architectural and project management skills are a must. You will report directly to the Director of Engineering and work closely with your peers who lead our Developer Tooling, SDET and DBA functions within the Developer Experience (DevX) group.
YOUR DAY-TO-DAY:
- Leverage your deep technical experience to guide your team’s direction while growing your direct reports’ skills via mentoring, coaching, and pairing.
- Focus on planning and management with minimal time spent hands-on implementing technical projects.
- Work closely with other engineering team leads & managers to create the quarterly roadmap. Regularly track and communicate progress against your roadmap.
- Partner with software engineering teams to understand their needs and provide a high level of service towards enabling their efficiency
- Hire new team members, coach existing team members, and invest in new skill training.
- Contribute to PI’s public facing engineering brand to attract top talent to your team
- Leverage feedback and retros to continuously improve technology and process with your team.
- Ensure stellar levels of uptime and software performance for multiple software projects with a large, global client base.
SHOULD YOU APPLY?

- Strong track record of delivering complex software applications using the DevOps SDLC in a fast paced, agile environment
- Experience setting up and maintaining a Cloud- and Container-based hosting environment (Kuberenetes preferred but Docker Swarm, Openshift etc. are great too.)
- Understanding of how to scale a system & team to meet the needs of a growing user base
- Change agent willing to experiment, learn, and pivot by making data driven decisions
- Strong manager, career coach, mentor, and advocate to ensure everyone on the team is happy, engaged, and challenged
- Knowledge of engineering practices in a 24/7 cloud environment.
- Experiences running messaging systems like Kafka, machine learning tools such as Databricks, or big data tools like Snowflake are all a plus, but not required.
