To fight more effectively, military services must increase interoperability among legacy and emerging systems capabilities. STR’s team implements a novel software-based solution to this problem, enabling ad-hoc subsystem connectivity through message level translations. We support numerous opportunities to apply this capability across the DoD on various platforms, at military exercises and for mission demonstrations.
The Role:
The project requires a hands-on Software Engineer to directly support warfighter integration activities. The Software Engineer supports a team that includes users, government sponsors, partner organizations as part of STR’s STITCHES Warfighter Application Team. This position offers the opportunity for technical leadership, software design, development, integration and testing. The role also provides the opportunity to provide end user training, sustainment and fielding of capabilities in support of emerging military mission system requirements. Tasks span the full lifecycle of requirements development, software design, software development, unit and integration testing, documentation and deployment of mature software that will be used across multiple organizations.
This role is a blend of onsite and remote-optional work. A willingness to travel and/or reasonable commute is necessary for onsite work interacting with government customers for requirements development, integration and testing at locations such as Washington, DC and Fort Walton Beach, FL. Software development can be done from an STR site or your home location. The specific schedule will be discussed during the hiring process.
Specific activities include:
- Learn to use existing integration toolchain functionality to enable creation of new System of Systems software capabilities
- Suggest toolchain enhancements for increased functionality and usability; work with partners to implement and test such enhancements including input to documentation and training materials
- Partner with users and subject matter experts to understand implied and explicit requirements for system interoperability and System of System performance
- Create and execute integration and test plans; write integration and test summary reports
- Work with the customer and across the software team to troubleshoot issues
- Support deployed capabilities
Requirements:
The Software Engineer writes software that aligns with established architectures and follows good coding hygiene by participating in design and code reviews. The Software Engineer writes modular and extensible interface capabilities that are used in experiments, demonstrations and operational systems. This position is within the System Development Division, which works across space, airborne, and undersea sensor systems and the C2 capabilities that enable them. Consistent with our mission, the role requires strong collaboration skills and a focus on positively impacting the warfighter. This position typically requires 3-5 years of relevant work experience.
