Perceptive Automata is seeking an engineer that has experience developing motion planning for vehicles and enjoys the challenge of extending existing techniques to create innovative approaches.

In this role, you’ll be responsible for implementing autonomous vehicle motion planning that integrates our state-of-mind predictions (in addition to more “traditional” inputs) to help navigate intelligently in the presence of other road users such as pedestrians, cyclists, and other vehicles. This motion planning will initially be put to the test in simulation and will eventually be showcased in autonomous demonstration vehicles.

Strongly Preferred Skills & Background:

  • Experience developing motion planning algorithms for autonomous robots (preferably vehicles) in dynamic environments

  • Experience developing and testing mobile robots in simulation environments and in the field

  • Understanding of configuration spaces and a variety of planning techniques (esp. probabilistic planning techniques)

  • Extensive experience with programming and algorithm design

  • Extensive software development experience (C/C++, Python)

  • Working knowledge of state of the art of autonomous mobile robot planners

Also Helpful:

  • MS or PhD degree in CS/CE/EE/ME/Robotics or equivalent with focus on motion/path planning or related field

  • Publications in the field of motion/path planning

  • Experience with automotive-specific simulation environments (VTD, CARLA, etc.)

  • SLAM / Probabilistic Filtering experience

  • Experience organizing and managing large amounts of data (e.g. to serve as simulation inputs)

  • Experience with real-time sensor fusion (e.g. IMU, lidar, camera, odometry, radar)

  • Experience with machine learning including deep learning and reinforcement techniques

Benefits:

  • Year-End week-long shutdown, 3 weeks paid vacation & 11 holidays
  • 100% Premium paid health insurance
  • Monthly transit or parking benefit provided by Perceptive Automata
  • Flexible spending & dependent care accounts
  • Health care reimbursement account (50% or more of your deductible covered by Perceptive Automata)
  • Eye & dental insurance
  • Flexible maternal & paternal leave
  • Equity-based compensation
  • Efficient 401K plan

Perks:

  • Modern urban office space with natural light and greenery
  • Lunch provided daily by local Union Square Restaurants
  • Unlimited healthy snacks & beverages
  • Journal clubs, guest speakers & learning opportunities
  • In-office gaming, board games & books
  • Office lending library
  • Company outings
  • Diverse events organized by team members on an ad-hoc basis

Company Overview:

Perceptive Automata is focusing on solving one of the hardest problems for self-driving cars: understanding the human state of mind. The company combines behavioral science techniques with machine learning to give autonomous systems the capability to anticipate and react to human behavior, enabling autonomous vehicles to navigate safely and smoothly around pedestrians, cyclists, and other drivers. This is essential for autonomous systems to seamlessly roll out in human-dominated road environments and to deliver a smooth ride experience for passengers of autonomous mobility services.
