Software Engineer

EdX is looking for a Software Engineer for our “edX for Business” team here in Cambridge. The Business Engineering team supports organizations that need to provide high-quality education to their workforces at scale. We're looking for a strong engineer to join the team to help implement and propose new features. Your work will be used in production by millions of learners from all over the world.

This is a full-stack engineering team that works mostly with Python and Javascript, but the nature of the various projects offers opportunities to work in other languages as well!

Responsibilities:

  • Learn edX’s technology stack, participate in our Scrum process, and take advantage of our continuous integration process to ship code as soon as it’s done.
  • Establish strong working relationships with your cross-functional team as well as engineers throughout the company.
  • Apply your talent to design, develop, deploy, and support scalable software systems.
  • Participate in and have the chance to influence technology decisions at edX.
  • Participate in code reviews and other feedback mechanisms.
  • Demonstrate a “you build it, you run it” mindset of ownership.
  • Have regular, meaningful conversations with your team lead about growth and career development opportunities.
  • Have some fun!

Requirements:

  • 0-2 years of professional experience with Python or other development languages.
  • Exposure to full stack web development, including modern web frameworks such as Django.
  • Understanding of how the web works, including RESTtful APIs.

Plusses:

  • Experience working in an agile development environment.
  • Experience with databases, both relational and non-relational.
  • Experience with Docker.
  • Experience with frontend frameworks such as React, Redux and webpack.
  • Familiarity with W3C Web Content Accessibility Guidelines.
  • Contributor to or consumer of Open Source frameworks.
