POSITION DESCRIPTION

You will:

  • Be a founding member of an engineering team in a fast-growing startup
  • Design, develop, test, and deploy highly scalable, complex applications
  • Help to architect a product with sound design for existing and new functionality
  • Assist to implement this architecture and philosophy in a scalable manner
  • Work in a highly collaborative, mission-driven, agile product team
  • Join a first-mover organization focused on cracking the code on patient experience to ensure that all patients feel known and valued in the moments where they need it most
  • Embody the Docent values by operating with thoughtful efficiency, leading with data, and interacting with empathy

You ideally have:

  • A passion for solving some really difficult business challenges: for our end-users, architecture, team, and process to name just a few areas
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Systems Engineering or similar; relevant experience is always considered in lieu of a specific degree path
  • Strong computer science fundamentals in data structures, algorithms, object-oriented programming and service-oriented architecture
  • 5+ years of software development experience
  • A desire to collaborate, coach, and teach as a part of our pursuit to build a world class engineering organization. You’re a learner, not a knower
  • Experience or knowledge working in a RESTful SaaS architecture
  • Some depth of experience in at least some areas of our current technologies: Ruby on Rails, Java, Python; MySQL and/or PostgreSQL; NoSQL (Redis, MongoDB and Cassandra); Elastic Search; HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript (React/Redux, Angular, Ember)
  • A deep understanding of what makes a great Agile software development processes
  • Working knowledge of Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment platforms and Source Control systems
  • The ability to work in an environment at a fast pace and with changing priorities
  • Demonstrated ability to rapidly adapt to new technologies and quickly contribute to consistent delivery of high quality software
  • The ability to analyze and solve problems, make difficult decisions, and take ownership of a problem from beginning to end
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills (both technically and non-technically). You can go the distance in a technical discussion but also bring things up a level in a business conversation to explain to our colleagues in other areas of the business.

Nice to have:

  • Experience building platform APIs and/or microservice architectures
  • Previous experience with healthcare or other regulated (e.g., financial) software environments
