Toast has been designing our own Android tablets since 2018, when we introduced the Toast Go handheld built specifically for the restaurant industry. The Android Systems team works closely with Toast’s Hardware team on the development of new Toast tablets. Always the first to get their hands on new hardware prototypes, Android Systems builds software and firmware to maximize the benefits of our hardware platform for our customers.

The team uses a broad stack of technologies to accomplish their goals. Different team members have a mix of Android OS, hardware engineering, Android app development, and full-stack cloud development skills.

About this roll*:

Develop a scalable system to distribute firmware to hundreds of thousands of tablets
Design for reliability and observability
Define technical requirements for hardware partners

Diaz is one of the many Toasters who have always worked remotely, and will continue to do so. His team is able to connect with the territories they serve, while also strengthening their relationships with other Toasters all over the world through virtual programming and tools for collaboration. With remote employees across the U.S., Ireland and India, fostering an inclusive and engaging remote culture is a must at Toast.

Even though many of us are fully remote or hybrid, it feels like family, and everyone knows each other well. Virtual events help introduce us to other people and teams outside of our usual work environment.
