DigitalOcean’s Storage Team builds and runs cloud-scale distributed storage systems powering internal and customer-facing services and products. We’re creating flexible and powerful solutions that our customers will leverage to ship their software as quickly and easily as possible. We’re looking for engineers to work on this team responsible end to end from design, implementation and improve DO's Spaces and Volumes products. We are looking for a senior engineer who will work on a small team to develop across the whole stack of our current and future systems. This role reports to the Engineering Manager of the Storage team. This job can be worked remotely or from our offices in NYC and Cambridge, MA.

What You’ll Be Doing:

  • Program in C/C++, Golang, Python & Ruby
  • Work on technically challenging distributed systems
  • Collaborate with an agile, self-managed team of peers
  • Work on the team designing, implementing, testing and optimizing DigitalOcean’s user facing Object storage and Block storage products.
  • Contribute to a free/open source platform and community at large
  • Work with interesting technologies such as Ceph, Docker, Kafka, Consul, and more

What We’ll Expect From You:

  • Proficiency in one or more of following programming languages: C++/C, Go, Python, Ruby
  • Strong Linux system level troubleshooting skills and solid knowledge of storage stack
  • Experience of operating object storage system in private, public or hybrid cloud environment. (Preferably Ceph)
  • Familiar with configuration management tools such as Chef, Ansible. Familiar with docker and container technologies
  • Experience of developing large-scale distributed object or block storage systems (data-plane) is a plus
  • Experience with Content Distribution Networks is a plus
  • Experience work with upstream Ceph source code is a big plus
