Senior Control Systems Engineer - Ninja
SharkNinja is looking for a Senior Control Systems Engineer to join the R&D team within Ninja Engineering. We seek a driven, creative problem solver with a deep understanding of software, electrical, thermal, and mechanical systems, how they all interact, and how to control them as the team’s foremost expert in advanced control systems development.
The R&D/Systems group is responsible for “how things work” in our products – developing the technology that goes into new products and improving their performance from proof-of-concept all the way to mass production. The Senior Control Systems Engineer works as part of the R&D team and owns, develops, and tunes the control systems that are the brains of our most innovative products.
This role is involved starting at the earliest stages of the product development process, developing quick prototype control systems and electronics to prove out new concepts. As products progress in the development cycle, this transitions into refining the robust and powerful control systems required for reliable, high performance products. This role is focused on leading the control systems development process, but every member of the team can impact every aspect of a product’s design. We’re all product developers here, and we work fluidly across teams in the pursuit of making amazing, 5-star-rated products.
Roles and growth opportunities exist both for those interested in a purely technical track and those interested in a management track with a heavy technical focus.
Attributes & Skills:
- Advanced understanding of systems fundamentals (including computer programming, electronic circuits and components, and control systems theory)
- Strong understanding of mechanical engineering/physics fundamentals (including heat transfer, thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, and mechanical design)
- Solid analytical skills, strong attention to detail, and relentless drive to identify potential problems and take responsibility for their resolution
- Natural curiosity, positive attitude, and proven ability to deliver robust, elegant, and innovative solutions to complex systems design challenges
- Comfortable driving multiple work streams and responding quickly to shifting priorities without losing sight of longer-term projects and goals
Qualifications:
- BS, MS, or PhD in Engineering (Mechanical, Mechatronics, Electrical, Systems, Software, or related discipline)
- 5+ years of related experience in control systems, software, or mechanical product development
- Solid proficiency in programming (Python, Arduino, C/C++, MATLAB/Simulink, embedded operating systems, or similar) and ability to learn new languages quickly.
- Experience working with electronic circuits and components common in small appliances (heaters, temperature sensors, motors, fans, pumps, etc.)
- Ability to construct working electromechanical prototypes including designing and building basic breadboard circuits and using common machine shop hand tools
- Skilled in using Excel, MATLAB, Python, or equivalent to generate graphs and charts from test data
