We’re looking for an experienced backend engineer to join our growing platform team, and to play an integral role in the launch of our new backend / API using AWS Amplify. We are currently undergoing a full front- and back-end overhaul -- migrating from Ember.js to React and from Google Cloud Platform (Firebase/Firestore) and Node.js to AWS. 

Location: While Parlor is a remote-friendly company, our strong preference is to hire candidates who are able to work from our Boston office (in Downtown Crossing) at least 2 days per week.

About the role:

  • Build and launch new Parlor APIs
  • Support expansion of Parlor integrations
  • Design, develop, and deploy efficient infrastructure
  • Data-modeling and API design
  • Collaborate with product and front-end teams on new features
  • Explore machine learning R&D opportunities

  • AWS (Amplify, DynamoDB, Cognito, AppSync, Lambda, OpenSearch, S3)
  • GCP (legacy - Firebase, Firestore, Cloud Functions)
  • JavaScript / TypeScript
  • Express / Node.js
  • Git
  • Other (React,, GitLab, Linear, Slack, Notion, Figma)


About you:

  • Have shipped production-ready GraphQL-based APIs (AWS Amplify or similar)
  • Solid experience with AWS stack
  • Problem-solver at heart
  • Eager to jump in and make meaningful contributions from day 1
  • Comfortable with autonomy and collaboration; you know when to ask for help, but are courageous enough to figure things out on your own
  • Proud of your work, open to feedback, committed to continuous improvement
  • Willingness to learn new technologies 
  • Bonus points for interest in machine learning (TensorFlow, PyTorch), data analysis, or CI/CD

Hiring Process

Parlor’s hiring process is designed to move fast and not waste anyone’s time. An intro call with our CTO Jason will be scheduled with those candidates that are most compelling. That conversation will be followed by additional meetings with our CEO Keith to learn more about the long-term vision of Parlor and with the head of product Cameron to get a feel for how we execute on that vision. If all goes well and both parties remain excited, we’ll make a verbal offer the same week with details on salary, benefits, and equity.
