Machine learning is eating the world. At PathAI, we're applying it in amazing ways to pathology, healthcare, and detecting cancer and other diseases. We're applying our work to drug development, the clinical space, and as a global health initiative.

For us, it's early days – a fast-growing, in-demand business and the need for a security team that helps keep us quick and nimble while protecting the sensitive customer and patient data we handle.

We're looking for an experienced Information Security Engineer to join our growing Information Security team. This role will be reporting to the Director of IT & Security. Our IT team, which currently includes an IT Specialist and an IT Systems Support Analyst, builds, scales, and maintains the corporate IT infrastructure using technical tools and innovative processes to help make IT at PathAI easy, instant, and omnipresent. Above all, we take pride in providing exceptional customer service to all of our stakeholders. We believe in using the best tool for the job and, while we’re always looking to improve, tools and platforms used in this role include:

  • Operating systems - e.g. Linux, MacOS, Windows
  • Networking - e.g. Sonicwall, Aruba, Juniper, Ubiquiti
  • Cloud services - e.g. Microsoft, Exchange, Datto
  • Source code management and issue tracking - e.g. Gitlab, Jira, GitHub
  • Secrets management - e.g. Hashicorp Vault
  • IAC - e.g. Ansible, Terraform
  • Virtualization - e.g. VMware ESXi

We're looking for an experienced Information Security Engineer to join our growing Information Security team to help us continue to move both fast and safely to have the most impact on the outcomes of patients facing serious diseases. This role will be reporting to the Director of IT & Security. Our security team, which currently includes a Principal Security Engineer and an Information Security Compliance Analyst, works on automated tools and creates innovative processes to help make security and compliance at PathAI easy, instant, and omnipresent. If you're the right candidate for this hands-on role, you'll be part of the PathAI Information Security team in no time and be able to:

  • Contribute to the design, build, and maintenance of PathAI’s security architecture and infrastructure, with a particular focus on establishing and leading a security program at new office locations.
  • Conduct research into vulnerabilities that affect networks, servers, instances, and containers within the corporate IT infrastructure.
  • Model threats that could impact our corporate IT environment, and practically apply principles, best practices, and relevant standards.
  • Implement monitoring systems, instrument containers, and scan networks.
  • Support risk management and compliance activities, deploying tools and infrastructure in code so we can spend less time producing documentation and evidence.
  • Work with the IT team, product engineers, and product managers, when appropriate, to mitigate discovered risks and threats, and evangelize best practices and security tooling.
  • Value automation of processes, helping security tooling to be transparent and ubiquitous throughout the PathAI technology stack.

Requirements

Our employees come in all shapes and sizes, but to be successful in this role with us, you'll at least need:

  • Experience. This role will require at least 3-5 years experience working as an engineer or senior IT professional with responsibilities directly relating to information security.
  • Exposure. You shouldn’t be a newcomer to the key components of our infrastructure. Network technologies - like switches, routers, and firewalls - scripting and automation, Windows, Linux, and virtualization should be a part of your repertoire. You don’t need to be an expert in everything, but you should have been around the block once or twice.
  • Education. Generally, a bachelor's degree in a relevant field is really helpful in working with our team on this kind of work. But feel free to convince us if you're the exception.
  • Tenacity. We're doing some big things, and we'll find some roadblocks along the way, big and small. An important part of this role is keeping an even keel and finding the route through or around the obstacles.
  • Communication. This role requires lots of communication with everyone at PathAI. Your customers will rely on your ability to lead and role model the best security practices. Colleagues will expect you to quickly articulate components of the PathAI security program to help them assess risk, including as part of the business development process.
  • Audit support. The ability to support audits, especially with external stakeholders and certification authorities is a key component of this job, because you would be expected to participate in at least two security audits each year.
  • An insatiable intellectual curiosity and the ability to learn quickly in a complex space.

Benefits

For the right candidate, we'll offer a competitive salary plus equity. Your compensation is rounded out by a strong benefits package:

  • Flexible work hours, with work-from-home options available
  • Three weeks of paid leave per year, an additional two weeks of sick time, plus extended holidays and team-approved leave
  • Ten days of 100% subsidized childcare per year
  • Healthcare, vision, and dental insurance plans (HMO or PPO), with voluntary add-ons available for dependent care, life, and accident coverage
  • Commuter benefit available for public transit or parking

Most importantly, you'll be doing important work with a team of people you'll genuinely enjoy spending the day with.
