Summary:

This is an excellent opportunity for a scientist with a strong background in modeling and simulation to research, implement, and evaluate a variety of technologies within well-defined operational domains; such as social media analytics, implementation of modeling and simulation technologies for tactical applications, and simulating realistic urban environments for a variety of training applications.

The selected candidate will work directly with other scientists and engineers to determine the requirements of the domain, design user-focused and requirements-driven systems, and assist in implementing these designs throughout the software development process. The candidate will need to be able to exhibit sound design and development principles, apply previous research to create new designs, and remain abreast of current best practices.

The candidate will remain abreast of current research in modeling and simulation and the social sciences and apply the findings of this research to design efforts. In addition to designing quality modeling and simulation analytics, the candidate will need to clearly communicate rationale and underlying analysis through written and verbal means with sponsors and users.

Major Responsibilities/Activities:

  • Analyze and design tailored applications of modeling and simulation techniques
  • Design and support development of novel decision support systems
  • Interact with customers, users, and domain experts to analyze and understand challenges
  • Pursue technologies to implement solutions, including establishing new areas of research
  • Work with software engineers in developing technology solutions
  • Contribute to proposals, continuing customer engagements, reports and papers, and present work at briefings and conferences when appropriate

Minimum Requirements:

  • U.S. Citizenship
  • Bachelor’s or Master's degree in fields relevant to modeling and simulation (e.g., Computer Science, Cognitive Science, System Dynamics, Physics, Mathematics, Electrical Engineering)
  • Passion for evangelizing the benefits of applying modeling and simulation to problems of real-world interest
  • 5 - 10 years of relevant experience
  • Strong verbal and written skills to support proposal writing, interaction with customers, and presentations at technical conferences
  • Demonstrated ability generate clear, grammatically correct written materials
  • Experience designing user-focused interfaces and systems
  • Knowledge elicitation experience
  • Familiarity with modeling, analysis, geospatial, and design tools (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite, ArcGIS, Vensim, MATLAB/Simulink, R, AnyLogic)
  • Knowledge of Social Media, Network Analysis, Java, JavaScript, HTML5
  • Experience directly interacting with customers
  • Experience with Agile/Scrum development processes
  • A publication in any of the above fields
  • Experience in intelligence analysis, socio-cultural modeling, and/or mission planning
