As a member of the Enterprise Business Applications (EBA) scrum team, you will be delivering innovative Salesforce.com solutions to our business stakeholders and customers. Salesforce is a strategic enterprise level platform at athena and we take advantage of the majority of the Salesforce product suite, including Sales Cloud, Service Cloud, Knowledge, Marketing Cloud, Community Cloud, Analytics, CPQ, Billing as well as a number of AppExchange packages, including Gainsight and Cloud Coach. This is a challenging role in an area of athenahealth’s strategic expansion that will require tenacity, teamwork and a passion for achieving true customer success.
Position Summary:
The Salesforce Developer will be responsible for standard and custom Salesforce development. This includes designing, coding, configuring, unit testing, and modifying existing features. This position will work alongside product owners, analysts, stakeholders, and architects in the EBA Team.
Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:
80% [Primary Function] Technical Execution

  • Follow approved life cycle methodologies and develop scalable and secure Salesforce applications in an agile environment
  • Act collectively with the scrum team to determine how to achieve goals
  • Produce high-quality code that will drive complex functionality in our product and deliver customer value
  • Contribute accurate, technical design specifications
  • Perform application configuration activities in Salesforce.com
  • Understand and follow coding conventions and Salesforce architecture best practices
  • Perform peer code reviews in order to ensure quality standards
  • Utilize source code management systems, including branching and merging of code


10% Contributions to the Team

  • Learn the domain knowledge for area of assignment
  • Follow practices outlined by team and contribute to agile ceremonies to improve team performance
  • Undertake work in the backlog and commit to quality delivery
  • Take ownership of what the team builds after the release; consider customer adoption as success criteria
  • Contribute to agile ceremonies to improve team performance i.e. daily stand-up, sprint planning, readouts and retrospectives
  • Volunteer for work in the backlog and commit to quality delivery
  • Drive self-organization; help determine how the team functions in collaboration with your peers

5% Cross functional Coordination and Communication

  • Builds strong relationships with cross-functional team members and external teams


5% Mentorship of Others

  • Advise and train members of the team to maximize overall productivity and effectiveness of the team


Education, Experience, & Skills Required:

  • 1-4 years of experience in an engineering role
  • Familiarity of working in an Agile environment preferred
  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent
  • Software engineering skills and computer science experience
  • Knowledge of at least one modern programming language such as: C#, C++, Java, Python, and javascript/jQuery
  • Familiarity with Unix/Linux, SQL, NOSQL, and various other technologies
  • Exposure to object-oriented programing, relational database technologies, distributed computing tech (Hadoop, spark), RESTful API, WebUI (HTML 5) and Modern JS frameworks

  • Ability to learn and adapt in a fast-paced environment, while producing quality code
  • Ability to write code that is technically sound, performant, scalable, and readable
  • Ability to identify alternative methods of solving problems and build efficiencies while doing so

  • Ability to identify and communicate risks
