Robotic Controls Engineer
At Vicarious Surgical we are revolutionizing the field of surgical robotics. We seek to improve the lives of patients, enhance the ability of surgeons, and expand worldwide access to high-quality care through the use of surgical robotics. We have reimagined what is possible by building a human-like surgical robot and combining it with the world’s first virtual-reality surgical camera to allow surgeons to perform minimally-invasive surgery with the ease of an open procedure.
As a Controls Engineer, you will work on all aspects of our robotic system that affect the motion of our robot. You will be responsible for system modeling and control system development. You will be working cross-functionally to help implement your control algorithms. This role requires not only a deep theoretical understanding of controls but also solid intuition in how to apply it to real systems.
Responsibilities
- Design control algorithms based upon the robotic system dynamics
- Working closely with software, mechanical and electrical engineers to guide development and implementation
- Develop a solid understanding of the robotic system and its various sub-systems
- Develop software and hardware tools to test the system performance
- Design tests to collecting appropriate data to validate and improve controls algorithms
About You
- Masters degree in an engineering discipline OR Bachelors degree with a minimum of 2 years relevant experience
- Strong understanding of dynamics and modeling fundamentals, including robot kinematics and dynamics
- Proficiency writing code in a high-level language (MATLAB, Python or C++ preferred)
- Experience with experimental data analysis
- Familiarity with software packages for system simulations (MATLAB, SciPy, etc)
Nice to Have
- Experience with Robot Operating System (ROS)
- Experience writing control algorithms for complex systems with nonlinear dynamics
- Experience in robotic systems or medical devices
