Propulsion Engineer

We are currently seeking propulsion engineers for multiple positions at Aurora Flight Sciences to join the Power & Propulsion Group at our Research and Development Center in Cambridge, MA. The group supports propulsion-related aspects of the development of advanced aircraft ranging from small unmanned aerial systems to large commercial transports, and conducts research on novel power and propulsion system concepts. The successful candidate will support ongoing programs concerned with the design of highly integrated air vehicle propulsion systems. Typical candidates will have an engineering degree from an accredited university and experience in the aerospace or power industry.

Specific Responsibilities:

Define power and propulsion system requirements for advanced aircraft concepts

Support aerodynamic, mechanical, thermal, or electric analysis, design, and test of integrated product components

Communicate information about power and propulsion system design, requirements, and performance between the design team, management, customer, subcontractors, and vendors

Present analytical and experimental data, and recommendations based on findings

Work as part of an interdisciplinary team to develop, propose, and execute research programs on novel aerospace propulsion and power systems

Minimum Requirements 

  • BS in aerospace, mechanical, or electrical engineering or related field from an accredited university
  • 5+ years of industry experience in one or more of the following areas
    • Gas turbines and turbomachinery
    • Propulsion-airframe integration, inlet and nozzle design
    • Distributed power system integration
    • Propeller aerodynamic and mechanical design
  • Strong English written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated success in a highly collaborative environment
  • Ability to support multiple activities with competing priorities and deadlines
  • Must be willing to relocate to Boston area and work onsite
  • Must be a US Citizen or Legal US Permanent Resident
  •  

Highly Desired Qualifications 

  • MS or PhD in aerospace, mechanical, or electrical engineering or related field from an accredited university or equivalent industry experience
  • Engine or electric system thermal management
  • Electric systems: batteries, power electronics, electric machines, hybrid gen sets and drive trains
