TripAdvisor is looking for a seasoned principal software engineer to join out SEM team. In this role you will provide technical leadership to a team of engineers building a new platform for the largest paid advertising program at TripAdvisor. 

In this role you will directly impact the overall performance of the company by leading the design and development of a system that uses machine learning and big data to predict the performance of billions of keywords every day. 

The team has already had a significant impact on the performance of the company and recent projects include building a model which predicts the value of leads that TripAdvisor sends to advertisers and the development of a user value model which is built using boosted trees

The ideal candidate for this role is highly technical with experience in big data and distributed processing.

What you will do

• Write code…it's an engineering role, after all.
• Work with your team, as well as other groups like product management, design, plus others, to bring your projects to fruition.
• Touch whatever level of code required in order to complete your project.
• Be creative and pragmatic when solving the problem you are working on.
• Be a mentor/lead for others on the team.
• Move quickly. We have a weekly release so build it and ship it!
• Design complex systems and lead the technical solution of projects
• Work closely with our product and design teams to define feature specifications
• Develop, deploy and maintain full stack implementations of owner- and consumer-facing features of TripAdvisor Restaurant experience
• Be responsible for the code quality on your team
• Be responsible for all aspects of software engineering, from design to implementation, QA and maintenance

What you will bring to the team

• Driven results within a strong, talented, opinionated team, and have a solid track record of project delivery.
• Proven that you communicate clearly, and partner effectively with both technical and non-technical staff
• Demonstrated excellence participating on cross-functional engineering teams in fast-paced environments, both in terms of technical leadership and hands-on coding.
• Experience with big data ideally using Spark
• Expertise with Python or Java
• BS or MS degree in Computer Science or a related technical field
