We are seeking someone who is a hands-on analyst, technologist, and architect who has deep experience in cloud and application architecture to provide us with tactical and strategic direction. The role reports to the CTO and actively collaborates with the VP of Engineering, CTO, product management, customer success, engineering teams, and operations and sometimes is required to work with customers, prospects, strategic partners and investors to achieve the company goals. 

The Architect consults with all stakeholders to design the overall architectural strategy, including cloud infrastructure and application architecture. The Architect works closely with engineering teams to guide design of system components, defining consistent standards and practices while addressing the specific needs of each team.

Responsibilities:

  • Vision, strategy, and guiding principles for architecture
  • Conceptual, logical, and physical designs for system and software architecture
  • Documentation and diagrams of current and future state architecture to ensure common understanding of Cogito systems and direction
  • Quality of design and methodologies used throughout engineering organization
  • Reconciliation of functional and other requirements from product management with technical requirements and concerns
  • Prototypes of proposed designs to prove efficacy and efficiency and facilitate development
  • Decisions on choices of third-party tools/components and successful integration into architecture
  • Review of deliverables from internal, vendor, and customer sources
  • Awareness and understanding of emerging technology throughout the engineering organization and company
  • Balance of tactical (velocity, time-to-market) and strategic (correctness, extensibility, reusability) engineering concerns
  • Simplification of product architecture by driving and managing deployment of new systems and retirement of old ones
  • Elevation of knowledge and capability of developers through mentoring
  • Technical leadership in cases of incident response
  • Communication of complex technical concepts to a wide range of stakeholders with varying perspectives and technical expertise
  • Representation of engineering to key enterprise customers and partners, including involvement in sales opportunities

Requirements:

  • At least ten years of commercial experience designing and delivering enterprise software
  • Strong knowledge of software design and architectural patterns
  • Ability to serve as a subject matter expert for software and architectural frameworks, methods, and tools
  • Solid software development life-cycle experience, and a proven record of designing and delivering large scale applications
  • Solid experience in OOAD (Object Oriented Analysis and Design)
  • Sound understanding of distributed systems, virtualization, open source, and cloud methodologies including serverless and containers
  • Deep and broad experience with AWS technologies and services. AWS certification preferred
  • Familiarity with technical modeling approaches (e.g., UML, E/R diagrams, flow-charting) and the ability to create effective diagrams and design documentation 
  • Understanding of issues surrounding availability, redundancy, and fault-tolerance; performance and load balancing; monitoring; diagnostics and security
  • Strong intellectual honesty, with the ability to deliver and receive constructive criticism, to accept somebody else’s idea when it is better, and disagree in a constructive fashion
  • Strong interpersonal skills including team collaboration, leadership, presentation, organizational, verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong people management skills, including the ability to provide candid constructive feedback to analysts and project team members with a focus on accountability and development for team and self
  • Must be comfortable working with all project stakeholders including business users, architects, project managers, business analysts, developers, test analysts, and production support team
  • Experience applying data security policies and familiarity with PCI, HIPAA, HITRUST, GDPR
