ML Operations Engineer II

As an MLOps Engineer on the Data Science team, you'll help develop and deploy the technology at the core of WHOOP's business. Our team leverages a wide variety of statistical and data science techniques to build the models and algorithms that detect sleep, classify workouts, determine recovery level, and more. You’ll help us put this cutting-edge physiological and data science research to work in a massive-scale production environment. Your collaborators will include physiology experts, data scientists, and software engineers. Your solutions will serve as the foundation for the product features that help our members unlock human performance.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Work closely with data scientists and software engineers to productize, deploy, and maintain models and algorithms in production.
- Develop and maintain testable, predictable, comprehensible Python services, following and introducing best practices around testing, observability, and monitoring.
- Re-factor production codebase to improve performance and reduce complexity.
- Respond to production alerts and issues. Leverage logging and monitoring to identify root cause and implement solutions.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Applied Mathematics, or a related field. Master’s preferred.
- 3+ years relevant experience
- Proficiency in developing and testing production Python code
- Experience developing scalable APIs to serve machine learning models
- Comfort troubleshooting with tools for logging & monitoring (e.g. DataDog, Sentry, Kibana)
- Experience applying statistics, optimization, and machine learning techniques
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to translate member and product needs to technical requirements
- Understanding of exercise physiology or athletic experience is preferred
