Mechanical Integration Engineer
RightHand Robotics (RHR) is building a world-class team to solve the biggest problem in ecommerce logistics: how to fulfill orders, despite demand that’s growing at six times the rate of available labor. Our cutting-edge robotic picking systems manipulate hundreds of thousands of items -- it’s a software-driven, hardware-enabled technology that meets the increasing demands of e-commerce order fulfillment and other industries.
We are seeking a self-motivated individual to join our growing hardware team as a Mechanical Integration Engineer. Your primary responsibility will be to design the physical workspaces and supporting structures that are needed to make our robots perform piece-picking tasks in varied environments. You will join a diverse team with expertise spanning hardware, software and solutions design, and can expect regular interaction with members of the engineering, business, and deployment teams.
You Will:
- Interact with customers and our solutions designers to understand the workflows and material flows used in e-commerce warehouses
- Design the physical workspace around the robot, taking into account a variety of factors such as:
- Structural support - stability under static and dynamic loading, vibrations, etc.
- Placement of cameras, barcode scanners, or other peripheral devices
- Safety standards and regulations - accessibility, visibility, egress, etc.
- Integration with surrounding equipment - ASRS, conveyors, mobile robots, etc.
- Produce complete designs and documentation
- Produce & submit engineering change orders (ECOs) for review
- Check drawings and other documentation for completeness, correctness, and adherence to drawing standards
- Prototype and test components and assemblies in house, where necessary
- Work closely with manufacturers and fabricators to turn your custom-designed parts into reality
You Are (or You Have):
- Proficiency with Solidworks, with 5+ years of drafting or mechanical design experience
- Experience using document control and Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) systems
- Experience with the design and fabrication of sheet metal and welded structures
- The flexibility to work on more than one project at a time, managing and communicating progress vs. agreed upon timelines and priorities
- A Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
Bonus Points:
- Familiarity with material handling equipment and e-commerce warehouse processes
- An understanding of the basics of ergonomic design, since some human interaction with the robots is often a necessary component of customer workflows
- Experience with machine guards, gates, fences, cages, and other safety equipment
We offer:
- The opportunity to make an immediate and visible impact in an early stage company with lots of potential.
- Passionate and fun teammates.
- Flexible vacation and work schedule.
- Generous premium coverage for medical and dental plans.
- Robots, galore!
