Responsible for ensuring software products meets the established standard of quality including reliability, usability and performance. As a part of the Quality Assurance team incumbents will estimate, plan, and coordinate software testing activities. Incumbents will also ensure that quality issues and defects are appropriately identified, documented, tracked, and resolved in our defect tracking system. The incumbents in this role will work closely with the Product Owner, Quality Assurance team and the Development team(s) to create the overall test strategy. Developing and executing either manual and/or automated tests across company test systems applies best practices for reusability to minimize the maintenance and to ensure that all information systems products meet the highest company standards and end-user needs. Implement various types of testing to ensure thorough testing of software and freedom from defects and helps to resolve problems and issues to ensure the highest degree of customer satisfaction.

Recipe for Success - What's “in store” for the role  

• Responsible for fully understanding all application’s functionality and features. This may require working closely with business users and/or subject matter experts to understand the application and business processes and in gaining a global understanding of the integration and dependencies of applications across company systems.
• Responsible for carefully reviewing requirements and making recommendations to help ensure that they meet our end user needs and business solution.
• Recommending a test strategy and approach for various tests and test types to ensure that system and business requirements have been met.
• Determine the scope of testing. Features to be tested and Features not to be tested for both manual and automation testing. This includes possible other upstream and downstream applications and databases that could be affected.
• Determine the testing levels and types required.
• Identify areas of risk.
• Determine entry and exit criteria for testing.
• Adheres to QA design and testing standards.
• Working with the QA Manager and QA team to determine the testing tools to be used and define the guidelines and principles in creating both manual and automation scripts.
• Develop and maintain both complete and robust test cases and scripts for both manual and automated testing needs. Apply best practices for reusability to minimize the maintenance required to ensure product quality and client satisfaction.
• Prioritized testing so the highest priority features are added to the scripts first.
• Perform backend testing of the databases.
• Create needed test data for both manual and automated testing needs.
• Establishes benchmarks for program efficiency in operating and response times when required.
• Reviews computer and program logs to identify program processing errors.
• Documents, tracks, communicate test results, analysis and unresolved defects.
• Perform UAT with the application owners to ensure that the system as built meets the system and business requirements.
• All defects will be recorded following the current standard process in the defect tracking system.
• Independently analyze defects reported from the test run and identify if it is a defect in the application or error in the test script (manual and/or automated). If the defect is an application defect, QA will investigate and document the defect. However, if the defect is an error in the test script (manual and/or automated), QA will analyze the script and debug it to identify the issue and fix the script accordingly.
• Work with fellow senior testers, leads and manager to ensure quality testing is maintained throughout the product’s entire testing process
• Provide input to project estimates during planning meetings
• Prepare and modifying project specific test data
• Assist with preparation for User Acceptance Testing (UAT) as needed
• Assist with training of new QA team members
• Ability to perform basic coding functions using VB Programing (and other programming languages).
• Ability to record and play back options within the automation scripts

The Essentials In Your Cart - The required ingredients 

• 4+ years of experience in Quality Assurance
• B.S. in Computer Science, Engineering or related field OR equivalent professional experience
• Knowledge of test automation tools and Software Life Cycle Development
• Experience working with HP tool suit: UFT, PC, QC and Sprinter
• Experience working with Agile methodologies such as Scrum
• Experience with databases and able to write and execute SQL commands
• Clear understanding of QA best practices and processes
